Hello everyone....Chee5e here with a new egg.

Sorry About the blurry pics at times, I took them with my camera phone..Their as clear as I can get them without having to move back more(I wanted close up pics for the inside and it got blurry)

Disclaimer
I am not responsible if you do harm, damage, void warrenty,or destroy your iPod for not following directions,Or not following steps.I am not liable for this.

The Purpose.....
Is to get more gigabytes in your iPod without buying a new iPod with more in it.And without buying another harddrive for the pod. Also you can get other iPod parts that might be vital in the future(Seeing how most complaints are the dieing battery’s that don’t work for forever).

What You’ll Need
1.iPod- Any iPod really,I prefer only doing this on the video and nanos.(Video iPod’s because I can help if you need help doing somthing,Or don’t understand somthing).Nano’s another story.I don’t have one but they can’t be any diffrent on the set up inside. You can probally find Nano layouts on google (They say google is your best friend).

2. Some Knowledge on electronics,And some commen sense(Don’t take the iPod apart some where, were they’re is water)

3.Precision ToolSet(Phillip screw driver[Looks like this if you look at the pointy end +],Also a Flap head precision screw driver).

4.Tweezers

5.Flat waterless surface

6.A Conscious,That won’t make you feel bad for doing this to a friend or just anyone in general.(I’ll explain in Steps)

iPod Hardware Knowledge,So certain parts are recognized when seen in the inside.(For certain people that don’t know a whole lot and don’t read their test directions before doing the test,Meaning the test says to circle the correct answer and you write the answer to the left on the line) The test example is one example of ones stupidty

This is what the harddrive(HD)looks like in the inside of the iPod..And for people that are curious and have never seen the inside of a HD.or the inside of a iPod HD here is wat it looks like, minus my phone and my hair and part of my eye reflected on the HD disc itself.

And This is what the Battery pack looks like inside of the iPod.

Reason To Why Certain Steps Are Done
Step/Reason:

6th Whats good about knowing how to remove the harddrive in the iPod is so in future causes you already know how, Plus how I get 60 gigabytes out of a 30 gigabyte iPod is I change harddrives when needed.(i.e. I have all videos on one 30 gb HD, and all my songs and photos on the other 30 gb HD.) MAKE SURE THE APPLE ON THE BACK AND iPOD ARE RIGHT SIDE UP,NOT UPSIDE DOWN!!![/b][/u][/size]

4th: This is the step were you have to be very careful you don’t rip ribbon wires from the motherboard and so on.
Now that the chrome is facing you pull ipod apart slowly.(But only pull apart so the front and chrome back are only 1 cm. apart).

5th: Now take the chrome back and flip it over and to the left. So now you see the inside of the back with should be ribbon like things(Ribbon wires and were the headphones jack is and the hold switch.KEEP THE BACK CLOSE TO THE FRONT.DON’T TUG ON THE THING WHEN FLIPPING IT So it should look like this. except with little blue bumper things around the harddrive,And a LCD Screen that the harddrive and battery is laying on.(I took mine off of it because I didn’t want them)I suggest leaving them on because they make it so the harddrive heat dosn’t overheat the chips under it. SO KEEP THEM ON. I just don’t have them on because I can’t figure out how to put them back on

6th-9th (How To- On removing the Harddrive) NOTE:When folding back the battery pack and HD it hangs over the ipod bottom edge.Make sure you prop the battery pack and HD up after folding them back so no ribbon wires get tore apart or stretched like thay arn’t suppose to be.: First thing you need to do. Is start by pulling the battery pack back.(See iPod Hardware Knowledge to see what the battery pack looks like if you arn’t sure even though it’s written on it that, thats what that part is.Lol)Then pull back the HD itself to find the part it is hooked onto so you can see where to release it from the motherboard..

7th: Locate where the HD is connected to the motherboard and there should be a brown and black piece that is connected by shiny copper wires that look like their stiched to keep the brown and black parts together.Don’t have a picture for this part(I should though because this is the hardest thing to recognize,O well just look around for somthing that I gave the di5cription of and thats connecting the HD to the Motherboard. It’s not that hard to find,Since it is connecting the HD to the Motherboard.)

8th: Take your tweezers or somthing that has a really sharp point and is kinda flat and very gently, and slowly, and carfully flip the brown piece back towards the black piece. It should just unsnap up.--->RED Zone indicates the area where the brown/black piece is looking at it from the side, And the BLUE rectangle and arrow indicates the Brown piece of the brown/black,And witch way the brownpiece should fold back. And be sticking up towards your face. Now just pull the HD ribbon wire/wires out to release the HD from the main unit.

9th: Now take a breather,Pat yourself on the back, and congradulate yourself for now successfully releasing a iPod HD from it’s self.

10th (How To- On Removing the Battery pack) NOTE: Be sure not to break brown release on the battery pack release contraption by pulling the brown piece to far upwards with tweezers or other object.: Ok...First locate the
RED circle indicating the area where the Brown/white release contraption is. Then take your tweezers and pull the Brown release upwards to make it so it comes up. The White piece has to stay down. Then simply pull the battery’s ribbon wire up and out.The Yellow in the picture is the battery’s ribbon wire.

11th: Once again you have completed a hard task that they say you need to send in for a expert to fix for you. So pat yourself on the back.

To put backtogether follow the procedures backwards. Put the battery pack ribbon wire between the white peice and the brown peice and then push the brown piece back down onto the motherboard NOTE: Make sure the ribbon wire of the battery pack is firmly and securly back into the connector. Same for the HD, Put the ribbon wire back into the brown/black connector,Make sure its snug all the way into the connector. then push the Brown peice back down onto the ribbon wire. Then turn HD back over on to the motherboard.NOTICE- The HD has to be below the metal frame leveler in order to put back into correct position. Then Flip your battery back over into the iPod back in the right top hand corner making it just a perfect fit. Then Flip your Back Chrome plate back onto the front piece. Then push with fingers to make the chrome back and front snap together snuggly again.

And there you have it. Every time you want some more GB in your iPod simply pry the thing back open carfully and then start folding stuff back and then replace HD then connect back together and fold everything back together then close then push to connect back to front.Once you do this a couple of times it’s pretty easy and you won’t even think bout messing anything up because you’ve did it so many times it’s second nature. I can now say I have a 60 GB iPod that I bought for the price of a 30 GB iPod. Also you have some replacement hardware so you can replace things if they go bad.

Here you can see my friends black 30 gb iPod, And my white 30 gb iPod that I change HD’s with. I haven’t yet had to change my battery but when the time comes. I am well perpared to do so.

Here are some photos from when the LCD screen was in,on my friends iPod the night I was trying to fix it , When I almost had the damn thing fixed. And I had to open it one more time to take the battery out because it was a process I had to go therw in order for my computer to recongize it was there. Then I cracked the LCD screen cuz I forgot to open the thing from the bottom and not from the top.

If you read this all. Thankx for your time and patience. It was fun making this. And hopfully it benifits everyone that it applies to.Later on. Chee5e

Ok, It’s cool w/e, You don’t want to believe that I’m not Chee5e then go to my myspace page, Ask anyone on my top 6 people except for dmx because abviously he’s a rapper and is to famous to know who the hell I am. And Second of all I’ll post a photo of me on this site and you can go into video convo with me on aim. I ain’t faking my Identiy or watever BS your trying to say I’m trying to fake. But ya ATL Joker, This will work with a 60 GB, More than likely. It has the same setup inside just probably a fatter HD, All this is doing is switching HD’s when you want a diffrent HD, It’s an act of being able to switch between diffrent harddrives. Think about that. Wat if people could take out their harddrive’s in their Pc’s and switch with another one. Well they kinda can by having a external HD such as an iPod or another external storage device that has like 500 GB’s. But ya more than likely you can. It all comes down to that little brown and black connector. That connects the HD to the motherboard. So ya

oh yea heres a way to not get mroe battery power. i found this out myself and ruined a 50 dollar mp3 player. dont ever hook up ur mp3 to A subwoofer and then give it a 9 volt battery. i did that and it fryed my mp3

_-Th3Pr0b3-_-

Feb 21, 2007 8:32 pm -
and obviously, You didn’t have the same make of the same battery that was in it already, This is just a case of swapping battries, So this has no effect over the power going threw it, Same type of battery = same battery usuage and power, Not more where it would push to much threw the thing and short circuit the thing or blow a wire on the PCB

Feb 21, 2007 10:28 pm -
why not just keep them the way they are and use one for mivies and 1 for videos? or u could just steal/buy a 60 GB btw 5 cause its a good egg

Feb 21, 2007 10:54 pm -
Or you could save the warrenty and not risk snappin the ribbon wires and buy an 80gig ipod for like an extra $80 dollars.. plus you stretched the page. this is unpractical and stretched. 2*s because it sounds like it works

Thankx for all the feedback... Appreciate it, And for Negronfire it really does work, I do it all the time, And to those who just thought it was a good egg and still don’t want to tamper with this typea stuff it’s cool, But Hey it’s nice to have 60 Gb’s without paying for another 30 GB iPod, And to Steamer, you obivously didn’t read it and the point, This isn’t about buying another iPod, Or stealing one that works, It’s about ones that already don’t work because of other reasons in the hardware(i.e. Broken click wheel, Headphones jack damaged or non workable,Hold switch is always on broke inside[I’ve actually seen someones that has had the hold broken and it’s always on hold and they don’t have a warrenty and don’t want to open it up], Maybe the Firewire connection is bad) Either way w/e the case may be you can get another one, For a simple question to the person’s that is broke then, Say it is broke and you sent it in and they didn’t give it back so tough luck, Then you have a extra battery and extra HD, So ya. This isn’t about tearing good ipods apart to just use the inside.Lol that’d be pointless. Anyways later on, good questions but please read the egg first. thankx. enjoy

i dun get it... so basically u dissasemble it n den reassemble it and ur memory magically doubles? and btw good job with the explanation it was veryyy detailed. and to the ppl dat wanna try somethin like this, dun worry its actually not too hard 2 open up and dissasemble an ipod. oh and btw its very very different with a nano. nanos use flash memory, not a hard drive, and flash memory is soldered onto the motherboard. **** cus its kinda confusing to follow, even though i know how 2 do it.

_-Th3Pr0b3-_-

Feb 23, 2007 2:17 pm -
Thankx Punk555, I wasn’t sure about nanos I figured they had a harddrive in it to.. Anyways..The explanation is that you just get another ipod somehow, from a friend or someone that can’t use it because it’s broke and then you just take the HD out fo that one and use it with your other ipod, Switch between the 2 if you like. Thats wat I do. But the whole purpose is to like take one from another broken ipod, and use it in yours.

Hahahaha, Lol....I just noticed something, Fucking RE fucked me over. Lol Ok. When I was making this egg I mad steps at at time. And then save them on a notepad then when I got on the next day I would just copy and past it into one of the "Make a New Egg Pages". Anyways between copy and pasting it or maybe when this site uploaded all my stuff it took some steps out. either way I just noticed it starts at Step 4...I had step 3 step 2 and step 1. These where the most important parts. Lol Like where to open it and stuff. Man that makes me sad. Lol I didn’t even get to paste my whole egg. Lol o well. If anyone has any trouble at all just ask me. For a future info.. Always open the Pod by the bottom. Man I had pictures and all for these steps. FUCK RE..DAmN. I feel like my egg is fucked now. Lol I just now realized that. Anyways thankx to all those who thought it was a good egg even though some steps got fuck out during the uploading. lol LAter on guys
