STRINGS, CHAPTER ONE

Ok guys, up until now, the modding has been simple & easy. This is where things get slightly more advanced.
In this tutorial, I will introduce you to changing strings in your iPod\\’s firmware, which will enable you to change certain words in your iPod\\’s interface for near full customization. We will start by only altering one string -- the string of the \\"iPod\\" in the titlebar.. This is only chapter one, whereby you will learn this simple hack. Then in chapter two, you will actually be understanding how and why iPod strings work, which will enable you guys to change many more strings besides the one located on the titlebar..

The methods I give in this tutorial are tried & tested by myself, and are safe to use providing they are followed correctly. The methods and techniques are not sanctioned by Apple, and could void your warranty. Follow these steps at your own risk! I must stress, if you are ignorant or careless with strings & hex codes, your iPod could quite easily become a very expensive doorstop. Follow carefully, and don\\’t try and run before you can walk ;-)
.:-The Mod/Purpose-:. For those that might want to change their titlebar word that says \\"iPod\\" on their iPod, Or their menu words to somthing else for example the iPod originally says Listening to when your listening to something, Mine says Rocking Out Too....
.:-Things You Will Need-:. _.-1-._ A 5th Gen. iPod (iPod Nano, iPod Video), or a 4th Gen. iPod (Color, or Monochrome) Dosn\\’t Matter
_.-2-._iPodWizard. The latest version is v1.2-
NOTE!!!!Have iTunes closed during this mod,After mounting your iPod,Close the iPod drive folder that pops up, So nothing else interfers during the modding.
-.:-_1_-:.- Connect iPod to Computer,Have this connected before you extract iPodWizard(Have iTunes closed,Close iPod Drive Folder when pops up)
-.:-_2_-:.- Extract & Launch your new iPodWizard Software
To extract press \\"Extract All Files\\", Press Next 2 times, Then Finish.
-.:-_3_-:.-(1st)- Locate \\"Edit Mode\\",Drop down arrow and select iPod.
(2nd)- It then takes a moment to mount iPod to software(It reads your iPods current hardware version),See how mine says Chee5e.(Indicating it\\’s mounted to the iPodWizard Software).
(3rd.)- Locate & Press \\"Load iPod FirmWare\\".You now have a bunch of new Tabs,And Load bitmaps,Save bitmaps on the side etc. Don\\’t Click Any Thing YET!!!
-.:_-4-_:.- Now that you have your iPod loaded and everything. Time to get into the actual modding.
.:1st:. Click on the \\"Firmware Editor\\" tab, Then click the \\"Strings\\" tab.
.:2nd:. After you\\’ve selected the \\"Strings\\" tab, The next thing you do is select the Language you are using under the \\"Language Block\\",as the iPod has many different languages embedded into it\\’s firmware. Shuffle through the index of numbers in \\"Lang Block\\" until you find the number of the one which is English (English is # \\"24\\")(Or, if you speak a different language, select that one).It may not be under number \\"24\\", it will vary depending on Firmware version and iPod model.. (Mine is the 5th Gen. Video iPod running the newest firmware version)
CHANGING THE \\"iPod\\" IN TITLE BAR
This is the part where you actually perform the mod.
Strings with \\"iPod\\" written on them are in many places all over the iPod\\’s firmware. One version of this string is used by the computer to recognise the iPod, and another is used to change the titlebar saying \\"iPod\\" (this is the one you want to change).
FINDING THE CORRECT STRING
.:1:. To Find the TitleBar \\"iPod\\" string, Type iPod in the top box.
.:2:. Then Click Find(Only Once)
.:3:. Your looking for the \\"iPod\\" string thats above the \\"Cancel\\" string,(\\"Cancel\\" is below \\"**PRE-RELEASE**\\").
.:4:.(A.) Once you have found it click on it under the \\"ID\\", \\"String Data\\" Box,(Right below the Search/\\"Find\\", And \\"Change String\\" bars) Circled in blue in the picture
(B.) Now go back up to the \\"Change String\\" bar circled in orange, And change the string to whatever you want.
(C.) Now just click \\"Change String\\", Also circled in orange. Then Click O.K. after is says String changed Successfully.
-.:_-5-_:.- Then locate \\"Write\\" at the top of the software, Up where you \\"Load iPod Firmware\\".. Then just click yes, then ok, then ok again, Then just go up to Eject right under where it says your iPod name. And then just let it go. It\\’ll do the rest. Congrats you have successfully changed your iPod strings.
You can change more, I\\’ve changed a bunch of them. Just make sure that you can always restore it if you mess up. Well happy modding. Later on. Till next egg.
