::: Easy, quick and cheap fusewire Egg :::
Hi, thanks for reading, this is ’kinda’ my first egg, a few didn’t quite go to plan and had some wierd errors. :P
Hopefully you’ll find this easy and useful- my very own fusewire.
So, let’s get started;
What you’ll need-
1. Brasso brass polish (the oil metal polish liquid, not the waxy stuff)- it can be relatively cheap ($2.99 i found on the internet, thats a lot of fuses for that amount of money :P) and is easy to find around the house, if you/your parents have brass on the mantle-piece then you’ll probably find this in the washing up liquid, WD40 and other household cleaners cupboard :)
2. String- You can find this magical contraption in any corner-shop retail centre. If you want to be cool, try using thick cord, something like what you would find as the pully on some blinds in a bathroom- you could even be a rebel and cut some off the blinds in the "Bathroom" section of Tesco.
3. Glass bottle- I always use Tesco vinegar bottles, they are about 14p (england :P) and you get a lot of malt vinegar to make some soda-bombs with :P *hits 2 birds with 1 stone*
4. Ignition equipment- Matches or a lighter, whatever floats your boat.
5. Tissue paper/Cloth- I get something ready as the polish is obviously quite greasy and is a bitch when it gets down the side of the bottle.
6. Scisors or knife- You need to cut the string that’s all.
::: What to do :::
1. Get your Brasso polish and pour about 5 tablespoons full of it into the empty, clean, glass bottle.
2. Cut the length of string you would like and remember to leave some extra to hang outside the bottle.
3. Trail the string inside the glass bottle containing your polish until you’ve got in the bottle how long you want it.
4. Screw the cap on firmly. Leaving a small end of string overhanging the neck about 3 inches long.
5. Shake well for a breif amount of time (around 3 seconds) holding bottle near neck with the cloth in your palm, pressing your thumb down on the cap. When shaking, make sure that the polish moves all over the inside of the bottle and the fusewire.
6. Unscrew cap and take out the string with the dry part, it’s ok if it gets on your hands, just wipe it off.
7. The polish takes quite a while to dry so you’ve got plenty of time to burn it. (That means, light it before the polish dries out)
::: Why use this? :::
Pros:-
The polish burns well
Cheap
Easy
It smells like other lubricants/cleaners so if you stink of it and your parents notice, you could tell them that you were putting WD40 on your bike chain or something. Unlike kerosene or petrol, it has a very ambiguous smell.
Cons:-
Stinks
Greasy and relatively messy.
Thanks for reading, and while you’re making fuses, these go nicely with Seventeens "good tubes and end plugs" Egg.
Seventeen’s Tubes and End plugs
Cheers ;)

 | Mar 04, 2007 10:28 am - Yea, the polish doesn’t have to be the Brasso thing :P
should have said that.
You can use any i suppose, eg. Silverware polish or another liquid cleaner similar, they all have the same ingredients that make it flammable i guess.
cheers for the votes :)

Quote: i dont think it would burn through holes though...
It does quite well for what you wouldnt expect, i got like these fat cork tube things from a box that my dad gets free from this place he goes to. I hollowed it out instead of using a card tube or whatever, it was an attempt at a kind of roman candle sort of experiment but bailed in the end and just did a wierd pop, however this fuse straight through the hole i tugged it through in the cork.
cheers for votes (again) :)

 | Mar 04, 2007 9:20 pm - u could just get an old pie dish and soak it in that and then let it dry out. so im giving u a 3** because my way might be better and im tired |

 | Mar 04, 2007 11:47 pm - i smell a C/P. |

 | Mar 05, 2007 1:25 pm - i smells a lier.
Quote: How fast does it burn?
best question lol
-It burns pretty quickly and depending on what string you use, it burns pretty differently too.
some string just don’t really work well and the polish will just be burnt off the top of the string.
But probably burns about 1inch/second lying down.
cheers for more votes :*

 | Mar 05, 2007 11:43 pm - I alredy knew this but insted of Brasso i use plumbers glue stuff it sicks way better but hey this still a good egg so 3 |

http://www.rotte eggs.com/r3/show/se/210757 html
But 5* nonetheless. |

 | Mar 06, 2007 3:23 pm - You lack the sense!, i think it will not burn INSIDE a firecracker where no air exists (or not that much) it will go out. you may mix some Saltpeter to the Brasso, when you burn saltpeter, it will create Oxygen. (yes a fire needs oxygen) but you did som easy pioneer work (like many other fuse builders here) and you made pics and a relativeley good egg buildup )sry for bad spelling) so ill give you 3 stars. |

 | Mar 25, 2007 1:18 pm - Wow, thanks, i didnt notice till later that u added me as an atternative! 5*
cheers | |
