Ever had that perfect picture opportunity but when you look at the photo the color of the picture looks washed out, not colorful, and just not what it looked like when you took the picture? Well I will teach you how to make pictures look much more spectacular by simply adjusting the colors and bringing out those fantastic reds, blues, and yellows. (you can use any one of these techniques they will all get you somewhere or you can use them in combination with each other experiment a little with what combos suit what pictures.)

Let’s begin by opening Photoshop and selecting the picture to be edited (I recommend saving the picture twice so you can compare the edited picture to the original and so you have a backup).
Go to Image>Adjustments, now look here we have four options. They are Levels, Auto Levels, Curves, and Hue Saturation.

Levels

This is an easy tool to work with great results. Go to Image>Adjustments>levels, a little window will pop up now you have a few choices. First Look at the three eye droppers in the bottom right corner.

Now select the white eyedropper and find the whitest spot on the picture and click there, then click on the grey eyedropper and click on the greyest part of the picture, then click on the black eye dropper and select the blackest part of the picture. This should have made quite a good color change if not try it again or try a different way of color change.

There is another thing you can do in levels look at the drop down bar drop it down and select the color you want to bring out or tone down the use the slider in the middle to adjust the color.

Auto Levels

This is the easy way out, but it is not nearly as good as the other ways of color adjustment. Simply go to Image>adjustments>Auto Levels. That’s it if you like the change save it if not try another way.

Curves

Curves is the most challenging tool (because of this I will only give he basics) but can give the best affects. Go to Image> Adjustment>Curves. It will pop up as a graph with a diagonal line.
simply click on a part near the top of the line and in little movements move it up or down.

Just experiment until you get something you like.

Hue/Saturation
This is an okay way to adjust but not the best. Go to Image>Adjustments>Hue/saturation.
Then select the color you want to bring out or to dull down the using the slider under saturation and lightness make little adjustments (NOTE: I don’t recommend using Hue as this changes the color it doesn’t adjust it there is a difference).
