I notice some people didn’t know how to make nitrocellulose lacquer (NCL). They also thought that they needed smokeless powder, you don’t. The process of making it is extremely simple; in fact us Aussies can make it. There are only two ingredients and they both cost about 13 bucks altogether, you see ping pong balls are made out of celluloid, which acetone can breakdown into a liquid called nitrocellulose, beware you must keep this in a glass or metal container otherwise the acetone will eat through the plastic. Also you must keep the NCL in an airtight container because of the high alcohol content in the acetone. NCL is used to coat visco fuses and many other things.

Materials

Acetone
Ping pong balls (get a good brand to make sure they are the material that you need)
A Stanley knife
A glass bell jar or metal container
A hobby syringe or measuring implements
Food Colouring if you’re gay

Depending on how thin or thick you want your NCL to be, add you preferred amount of acetone into the bell jar/metal container i like to use 30mls per ping pong ball but don’t use anymore than 100mls on one ball.

Get your Stanley knife and slice up a ping pong ball into roughly 6 or seven pieces, this make the acetone eat the ball quicker due to the wider surface area. Add this to the acetone then close the lid and wait a couple of hours, stirring it every few hours or so.

There you have it Nitrocellulose Lacquer!!! its extremely flammable so watch out, I am pretty sure it’s not explosive, but when the acetone evaporates you are left with this hardish plastic sort of thing, I found that if you grind this up into small pieces like brown sugar crystal size, they work almost like smokeless powder; doesn’t give off any smoke, lots of heat quite quickly, so if you really wanted to you could attempt to use it like smokeless powder. Oh and this makes a really, really evil molotov, trust me i’ve tried it with a small glass pill bottle.

Meh, I would use this to coat black match, to make it more durable.

using food colouring can be good, so you can tell apart the thickness and thinness of your NCL

real smokeless powder is made by mixing nitrocelulose with nitroglycerin

you know how visco fuses are sometimes red or green, this indecates how fast they burn, and the red or green coating is flammable, which is what your making

this is alrite but real nitro celluose is made from nitrating culluose(cotton balls) with nitric acid so i dont see how this is nitro celluose but how fast does it burn when dry like as fast as a match or what. 5*

there is a difference between this and smokeless powder, this doesn’t use nitric acid, kno3 or sulphuric acid like proper smokeless powder does, these are to different things.
