OK to the GOOD stuff
GRAFFITI GUIDE/INFORMATIONAL GUIDE.
1.ALITTLE BACKGROUND KNOWLEDGE.
Graffiti did not start any time recent.
The Cavemen,or w/e you wanna call them , Drew on everything. They marked their property as much as they could, and other places aswell. The pompeian’s put up prostitute ads, and drew cartoons and stuff into their buildings until they got blasted by that volcano. the Greeks did similair things too. In the 60’s adults used to write junk on trains, and most of this was in philly. In the early 70’s (give or take a year)the "graffiti Boom"happened. But it was kid named TAKI 183 who put up his name ALL OVER the city of NY(where the term ’all city’ came from). when people realized this was a person, they raced to get Their names up too.
Graffiti is one of the four elements of hiphop, Rapping,Breakdancing,DJing and Graffiti.
2.
WRITERS
People who do traditional graffiti are called writers, most look down upon the term"taggers" but thats is often used by people who dont know what They’re are talking about. we’ll get into graf terms later though.
3.
STYLES
So the race was on, and the bigger, the better.
Massive Paintings Were on the subways and trains of NYC.Style was what fueled the race.
Styles cannot be individualized and categorized because every person develops there on style, but most graffiti is classified as a :
TAG:the writers signature. all graffiti and style evolved from tags.
THROWUPS:bubble style letters usually one or two colors.Throwups were invented to get up quick, and the IN-1 and THE TOP CREW became all city kings by using throwups.
Burner: more detailed than a throwup, multiple styles and colors and more intracate, more fun to look at.
Piece:Short for masterpiece, intricate and colorful.
Production: several pieces with different styles except there is the same background of color.
Mural: what most productions are unfortunately turning into.
4.
Weapons of choice
The tradition tool of the graffiti writer is spray paint, but markers are very often used for tagging. many times homemade paint and markers are used, such as markers can be made from pipes, chapsticks, and even VCR tapes.paint rollers can be used for bigger pieces, and brake fluid and alchol or oil can be added for a more permanet effect and glass etching acid and lotion can be added.Caps are used for different widths and styles on paint cans.
5.
Getting started
I cant tell you how to write or do graffiti all i can do is put the marker in your hand(figure-atively speaking)you have to write your own graf and develop your own style, hopefully i have taught you the basics and the history, and both are very important in development. If your called a Toy, dont be discouraged, everyone is at first.Depending on your talent at drawing , you may excel faster.
i wrote this up because i like graffiti, and because graf is associated with anarchy and similiar things on RE.
DONT RATE THIS DOWN CUZ YOU DONT LIKE GRAFFITI.
IF YOU DONT LIKE GRAFFITI, YOU SHOULD RATE ON EFFORT.
THIS IS INTENDED FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE GRAFFITI!!!

Apr 24, 2007 8:11 am - .. errm yeah was ok not too accurate could be better, needs pics, could of mentioned cope, seen and pj, and cap, and how 183 was taki’s door number, and that a mural is a commissioned wall, or aka a legal wall. Could of given more definitions for ’tags’, like handstyles, hits, reaches..anyway nice one man needs pics though 3*
An element of the Hip Hop culture misinterpreted and misrepresented by the mainstream media, and most especially hated by affluent (usually white) businessmen who don’t understand the roots or meaning of the writing on the walls.
Apr 27, 2007 7:19 pm - The aforementioned need not be identified with bus, train, subway and wall burners. That’s REAL graffiti, the visual aspect of Hip Hop accompanied by the physical (breakdance), verbal (emceeing), and rhythmic (turntablism).
