Well today i went on an excursion to The Shrine Of Remembrance in Melbourne. I thought i would take some pictures for you guys and make a little egg out of it.

A Brief History ( You don’t have to read it.)

Quote:
The Shrine of Remembrance was built between July 1928 and November 1934 in remembrance of the 114,000 men and women of Victoria who served and those who died in the Great War of 1914-1918 - 89,100 of them served overseas and 19,000 did not return.

The people of Victoria felt that their debt to these volunteers, who had defended them at such great costs to themselves and their families, should be recognised by a worthy permanent monument of remembrance.

Although the country was faced with frightful unemployment and financial difficulty in the late 1920s and the 1930s, so great was the gratitude of the people that the huge amount required to build the Shrine was raised or promised within six months from the opening of the appeal in 1928.

The design for the Shrine of Remembrance was selected by competition among Australian artists and architects. Eighty-three designs were submitted and the winning design was by two Melbourne returned-soldier architects, Philip Hudson and James Wardrop.

The inspiration for the external outline came from one of the seven wonders of the ancient world - the mausoleum at Harlicarnassus to Mausolus, King of Caria in South West Asia Minor.

Prince Henry, the Duke of Gloucester and son of King George V, officially opened the Shrine before a crowd of 300,000 people in November 1934.

Since then, it has been a growing monument, with other memorials added to the site to mark the service of successive generations, such as the Second World War Forecourt and the Remembrance Garden – Post 1945 Memorial.

We started off coming in from the front

Entering the front door

A side view of the place

Some medals there was like 10 metres of these things along 3 walls thats like 30m

We had to watch this gay video about the history

Some cool gas mask thing they used to wear back in the war

The food ration pack that they got back then

Some flag thing was signed by all the soldiers back then

Some thing i saw i diddnt really catch what it is but, meh

Now, there was like 20 of these all over the room listing the names of the battalions that fought in the war (thats Bane (Spazza) on the right)

You cant see it that well in this picture but the roof was like upside down stairs with light at the top

Just a pic of a room

A pic of this really cool plaque thing it is cool because at the 11th of the 11th at 11am a light ray crosses the word love? It took 162 pages of maths to figure out how to do that

A really cool picture when coming out ( i think this would be a great wallpaper)

The eternal flame thing

A nice view of the eternal flame thing and some tower

Another view of the eternal flame this time, with flame

And thats it

P.S: if you want to see a video of the light crossing the plaque just ask in a comment and i will, upload it.
