Some of you may remember the egg I posted last year around the 4th of July that explained how to create your own Saturn Missile Battery out of Cardboard and paper. The problem with that design is that it will catch on fire and start shooting rockets out in different directions. This year I have constructed a missle battery that will not catch on fire and is almost as easy to make.
Materials needed
-Wooden 2x4s: (short pieces and long pieces) The sizes do not really matter. Find a housing construction site and take them from the trash pile.
-Tools (Hammer, nails, wire clippers, saw, tape)
-Chicken wire:Can be found at any hardware store and is very inexpensive.
-Cannon fuse/safety fuse:Can be bought at most firework stores or online stores.
-Lots of bottle rockets
Building the box The idea is very simple and does not have to be done a specific way. Your model may end up looking much different than mine depending on what wood you have to work with.
-Build a rectangle out of 2x4s.
-Cut out 2 pieces of chicken wire that are the same size as the rectangle.
-Nail the wire to the top and bottom of the rectangle.
Note: you will notice that my box is made out of 2 main rectangles, well, I later realized that I really only needed one
-Make legs for the rectangle to lift it up from the ground. IMPORTANT: double check the height of your box to make sure the bottle rocket fuses will not be sitting too high or too low.
Once you have the box built, all you have to do is take your cannon fuse and line the upper wire mesh with it. Be sure to tape it down good. Then all you do is drop in the bottle rockets and it will be ready to light.
Extra info
The box above is designed to hold medium or large size bottle rockets, not the small ones like those crappy moon travelers.
Below is a design that I made especially for small bottle rockets. I used a wider wire mesh on the top so that I could drop in larger bundles of rockets at once.
Basically it is just a box made out of larger peices of wood. I placed an extra piece of chicken wire in the bottom to hold the rockets upright.
The final setup before launch
Here is a video of it going off. Sorry for the bad quality, but you get the idea. Most of the rockets aren’t actually visible in the footage.

There was about 25 rockets that didn’t get lit. Next time I would do a better job setting up the fuse.
