Im writing because a few friends of mine, and myself have just recently taken up this AMAZING pasttime and we decided it would be a better idea to start small with just old run down abandoned houses and barns, ect... things like that. Anyway, I’m on here trying to find anyone else that has been in abandoned houses, because alot of these are old and extreamly run down, in the middle of nowhere and we, well- I am just concerned with the saftey, and things that we should be looking for in relation to the whole @!$#&*! house fallin in on us!!! So can anybody out there tell me what we should be watching out for or looking for when it comes to the structure of these places? ANY help would be greatly appriciated! P.S- this is an AWSOME sight!!! THANKS!! - Teffie

Look for support beams (usually in basement) If they look rotten/weak, get the hell out of there.

Also watch out for the floor... there’s always the risk of you falling through. If you stay close to the walls, it’s safer but still be safe. Stairs also seem to be the place where this tends to happened. Hug the wall, walk slowly. Obviously, don’t run/stomp. Don’t skip steps unless there’s a hole in it.

Look at the cieling. In the center is its arched, or around the perimeter if its flat, there should be support beams. Watch out for rotting wood there as well... If you just becareful and look for rotting/termite damage, you should be fine.

There’s always a risk though. Hope this helps.

if the house has been involved in a fire, dont go in

if the house has been seized by the police, dont go in (tampering with evidence)

dont trust going up stairs/floors, they can be weak and could not support you

last, if the house is reported haunted, make sure ur friend goes in first

cheers!
