Changing The Colour of Vehicle Sparks & Exhaust Fumes [By: Freak Design]
*Note: This method only works in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. San Andreas Will not work.*
Part 1: Overview
In this egg, I will be teaching you how to change the colour of vehicle sparks, and exhaust fumes in GTA: Vice City. After you read this egg, you should have the knowledge to change colours of anything in the Particle.cfg File.
Part 2: Finding The Particle.cfg
In order to edit the colours of your exhaust fumes, or sparks you need to first find the file that we will be editing. Simply navigate to C:\\Program Files\\Rockstar Games\\Grand Theft Auto Vice City\\data and open Particle.cfg in Notepad.
Part 3: Finding SPARK_SMALL
You should have succesfully opened Particle.cfg in Notepad by this point. In Notepad, either press Ctrl+F, or go to Edit>Find.... Type in SPARK_SMALL in the Find window, and press the find button.
Right now you should see SPARK_SMALL in the Notepad document near GUNFLASH. You are not going to be editing this one. Scroll down a bit more and find the SPARK_SMALL that is below SPARK
Part 4: Colour Me Timbers
Congratulations on finally getting to this step. You can now edit the colours of your vehicle sparks! Before you go any further you should pick the colour that you want to make your sparks. Open MSPaint. At the bottom of Paint you should see some different colours. Double click one of them, to open the Edit Colours Window. Click Define Custom Colours >> and drag the crosshairs around, until you find a colour that you like. If you notice the RGB (Red,Green,Blue) values change whenever you drag the crosshairs. You are going to be using the RGB values to change the colour of your sparks.
Write down, or copy the RGB values into a new notepad document. Re-Open Particles.cfg, and find Spark_Small again (Unless you still have it open) Replace the three numbers with the RGB Values that you took from MSPaint.
You can now overwrite Particle.cfg with this version. However before you save anything to the Vice City directory I highly suggest you backup the original, otherwise you will be scrambling to find the un-broken file.
[b]Part 5: Colouring Exhaust Fumes
Colouring the your exhaust fumes is done the same way as colouring sparks. However, instead of changing the RGB values of Spark_Small, you are changing the values of something else. This time search for EXHAUST_FUMES in Notepad. You can either replace the exhaust fume colour with the same colour as your sparks, or you can pick a whole new colour. It is up to you. I have them set as the same colour because I find it looks cooler. You can once again overwrite this file with the existing Particle.cfg
Part 6: Test It Out...Yo
You can now open Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. If you edited everything correctly you should now see different coloured sparks, and/or exhaust fumes when you are driving in your vehicle.
Part 7: What If It Breaks?
If you find that your copy of Vice City is not starting, or it crashes you screwed something up. Hopefully you backed up your Particle.cfg in which case you can just replace the backup with the one in the Vice City Directory. If you didn’t back
it up, post here and I can upload the file for you.
