The fake gum swap, an old-time classic!

This is an old prank, but a good one. You will need the following:

A pack of Wrigley’s Spearmint gum, or any other stick gum that’s white

White cardboard, from a cereal box or greeting card

Powdered (confectioner’s) sugar

Water

Scissors

Two shallow dishes

Peppermint extract (optional)

Remove all the sticks of gum from the pack except one. Carefully open the foil or wax paper wrappers. Use a stick of gum to trace the exact shape onto the cardboard, and cut the cardboard. Put the cardboard "gum" into the dish, and cover them with water. Pour off the water, leaving the cardboard wet. Add the peppermint extract if you like. When the cardboard has soaked some water and peppermint extract, put some powdered sugar in the other dish, and coat both sides of the cardboard "gum" with the powdered sugar. Your "gum" is ready. Put it in the foil wrappers, and put them back in the paper sleeves in the pack.

Offer a stick of gum to your mark(s). Take the real stick of gum for yourself, and they’ll grab the cardboard. See how long before they spit it out, because cardboard soaked with peppermint extract and covered with sugar actually tastes pretty good, until you’re left with only cardboard in your mouth.
