Alright people, its been a while since I’ve made an egg so im doing it on something that I recently did and couldn’t be happier with.
Now most people know Im a fan of games, being as i have nothing to do in or around my house I need something to do other than masterbating.
I bought a PSP off a friend a few months back for 50 bucks and couldn’t be happier.
However I lent the one game that I had to another friend because he was gonna have surgery but he never gave it back.
Needless to say, I was a bit bummed out.
But i had heard that there were ways to "mod" your PSP to play oldschool PS1 games and for your PSP to play PSP ISo’s you’ve downloaded right off your PSP’s memory card.
Speaking of which, if you have a PSP and your memory card isn’t at least a GB, than I wouldn’t do this because you’ll need the room for your games
Now, Before you do ANYTHING to your psp, you have to make sure you have the right motherboard that can be modded.
You need to open your UMD disk drive bay, and if you see ANY kind of numbers or letters in this area
Then you CAN NOT MOD YOUR PSP.
However, if there is nothing on that area then you have the right motherboard and your good to go!
Anywho first off you need to find out what your Psp’s firmware is.
To do this you need to go to the settings tab on your PSP and head to System settings.
once there scroll down till you find a tab that says system information
And click on it.
Now you should see the PSP’s MAC adress, the system software Level( Firmware) and your nickname you set for your PSP
Now to install this firmware, you need to make sure that your software level is 1.5 FIRST.
So if it ISNT, then you need to go here
http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/about32989.html and you have to refer to this section and it will show you how to downgrade your system from that certain software level
Now your going to have to download the custom firmware.
This is a direct download link straight off of psp-hacks.com
Now you need to connect your PSP to your computer and activate the USB connection in your PSP’s settings tab and the install button will appear.
Now hit the install button and it will place the installer on your PSP mem card.
now go to your game tab of your PSP and go to the memory stick option
And hit X, you should see two different things now, one is the firmware update, and another should be a corrupted data file.
Now all you have to do is select the firmware and let it run.
Two words of advice, make sure your battery is OVER 75%
And there is always a chance that messing with the firmware like this will fuck up your PSP(AKA bricking your PSP)
However if you follow the directions your chances are very low that it will brick.
A black screen will pop up and red text will appear tell you that its about to install the new firmware and it will warn you that it CAN royally fuck your PSP if something goes wrong.
once you let it run and the psp reboots itsself
just check the system information and see if your firmware reads 3.40 OE-A
if it does then we’ve successfully changed your firmware!
Now you have the ability to run PS1 games on your PSP.
If you want to run PS1 games on your PSP you need 2 programs.
Now it IS possible to download the EBOOT file for the PS1 online but by doing it this way you know its the game your looking for.
Ok, now if your like me, you still have a stack of some old PS1 games lying around next to your PS2 games.
Just grab one of your favorite PS1 games
Mine was Gran Turismo 2
Now put it in your disk drive on your computer.
Now were gonna start up CloneCD
it should look like this
And click on the far left one.
now it will ask you to pick which cd Drive on your computer you have it on.
There should only be one option, but I have two because i use dameon tools and it creates a virtual drive.
Now it will ask you what type of CD is in the drive.
Click on Game CD and hit next
Now it will ask you where you want the Image file to be placed. I have it set to write to the desktop, its simpler that way.
Once you hit ok, the drive will start reading the disk and it will create an image file of the game
you should see the three image files and a little progress bar should have popped up
Now when its finished you will hear a short little tune and it will say reading finished
Now were going to open up POPstation GUI
Now first, hit the browse button and find the image file
make sure to set the compression level to 9, its good to save some space.
Now just hit go and wait for it to convert the Image file to an EBOOT.PBP file
Now when its done converting it should look like this
Now rename the file to the name of the game, so mine would be GT2.
Once you rename the file, reconnect your PSP to the computer. When the window for your psp pops up, it should look like this.
Now go into the PSP folder
and then go into the GAME folder.
Now put the folder that the EBOOT.PBP was in, in the GAME folder.
And this will pop up
Now when its done transferring disconnect your PSP from the comp and go to the game tab and select the memory stick
and you should see this
And heres a vid showing you how it works.
Now onto how to play a PSP ISO.
This is really, REALLY easy.
Just download a ISO of a psp game off of a torrent site.
I downloaded GTA liberty city stories.
Now what is different from the EBOOT and the ISO is that the ISO was ment to be run from a disk. So when you run GTALCS, you have to make sure that some kind of PSP disk is in the disk tray. it can be any kind, even demo disks.
The only disk that wont work is a movie disk.
Anyway, you first need to reconnect your PSP to your comp.
And open the ISO folder
Now copy your ISO to the ISO folder
and you’ll get a pop up about the transfer
Now disconnect your PSP and head to the game tab and select the memory stick
And you should see this
Now remember, to play the ISO, YOU MUST HAVE SOME KIND OF UMD IN THE DISK TRAY. it can be any kind of game, even a demo disk. The only UMD that WONT work is a movie disk.
And I made this just to show you what happenes if you try to play this without an UMD in the PSP
One last thing, because this is a custom firmware, the person who made it put in a "recovery Mode" so you can tweak the settings a bit.
To use it shut off your PSP, and when you turn it back on hold down the R trigger and it will pop up, though if you don’t really know what your doing, I wouldn’t mess with them too much
