Okay, in this egg I’m going to show you how to
take ordinary almost useless pennies, and turn
them into SILVER AND GOLD COLORED PENNIES.
ITEMS NEEDED:
3 or 4 Pennies (preferably new and shiny)
Zinc (powder works best)
Sodium Hydroxide (can be bought online or in
stores as Rooto or Drano crystals)
WARNING: SODIUM HYDROXIDE CONTAINS
LYE AND WILL CAUSE SEVERE BURNS IF MISHANDLED.
TAKE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN HANDLING SODIUM
HYDROXIDE
Old metal bowl
Tongs
Small container with water
Torch lighter
Small towel
Stove
Okay first step you wanna put about 5 ounces of
water into your metal bowl. I used this for 3 pennies.
Now put your zinc powder/shavings in. About 2
grams per penny.
Now you wanna wrap that small towel around your
face cuz you’re ugly...also so that you aren’t inhaling fumes from the Sodium Hydroxide.
Now pour two HEAPING tablespoons of your Sodium Hydroxide in the mix.
Put the bowl with its contents onto the stove
burner and set it to as high as it will go.
When it comes to a easy boil, use your tongs to
put the pennies in VERY GENTLY so you don’t
splash anything on yourself.
Let it boil for about 10 minutes or until most of
the water is gone.
Use your tongs to CAREFULLY take the bowl to your
sink and fill it with water.
Once again, use your tongs to dump the water out.
Do this 2 or 3 times, or until the water is clear.
Use the tongs to get your pennies out of the bowl
and drop them into the container with water in it.
Now get the pennies and check em out. They should
be completely silver. If not you didn’t do it
right and you need to start over.
You can choose to keep them like this or go onto
the next step to make them gold colored.
To make them gold colored, get your tongs and
torch lighter. Hold one of the pennies with the
tongs and hold it in the flame for about 5-10
seconds. AS SOON as you see the whole penny’s
color turn to gold drop it in the container with
water in it.
And you are done.
End result
And dude if you still have that towel on your
face, take it off...you look ridiculous.
How does this happen?
Well, the Sodium Hydroxide dissolves the zinc and
plates the pennies with it.
And the gold ones?
When you heat the penny up, the zinc and the
copper coating on the penny bond and form the
alloy brass. That’s what makes it look gold.
=D
Now you can do what you want with them.
Perhaps sell them to people? A dollar a piece.

this is neat.
you can use other chemicals and disolve the zinc instead of the copper.
they used to do it during the cold war and hide transmitters in the empty penny shell.

Wow, ill put this in my favs, i dont have pennies here in europe too but cents are copper too. Ill do this! fucking nice, thought youl galvanise them or sumthing...
(Hey galvanising them would be lots easyer! But youll need copper sulfate, but this is actualy not that armfull as Sodium hydrooxyde. But youll need a piece of brass or anything else.)
