Scare a friend with Negitive X

Okay, in this egg I will show you how to make Negative X and a great prank you can use it for.
Wait, what is Negative X?
Negative X is a mixture of Zinc, Ammonium Nitrate, and Ammonium Chloride that causes a violent flame to erupt on first contact with moisture.
Here is a small amount I made prior to the rest of
this egg.
Small amount of the mixture.
Plus water.
Just one drop.
Equals...
OMGZ that’s awesome. How can I make it?!
MATERIALS NEEDED
First you are going to need some...
~Zinc dust
~Ammonium Nitrate
~Ammonium Chloride.
If you don’t know where to attain such Items that’s ok. You can get each of them most likely in your own house.
Zinc dust- Grab some pennies and grind them down with either a metal file or grinder. It is time consuming but worth it in the end.
Ammonium Nitrate- Do you know those instant cold packs that you squeeze and they get cold? Well all you gotta do is cut the small bag open before use and empty its contents out. The white granules are Ammonium Nitrate.
Ammonium Chloride- Table salt =]
Now that have you those, now you will also need...
~1 empty film cannister
~1 short nail (preferably with a large head)
~Plastic wrap
Okay get your film can and nail and push the nail through the middle of the lid.
Now get a small piece of plastic wrap like the one shown in the picture.
Set that aside. Now we’re going to measure out the Zinc powder.
For measuring I just use the film cannister.
Fill it about 1/4 of the way with Zinc.
Now pour it out on something solid.
Next measure the Ammonium Nitrate.
Put about half as much of it as you did the Zinc into the cannister.
Mix the two together and grind together with the back of a spoon until it is mostly a uniform mixture.
Get the Ammonium Chloride and put about half of it as you did the Ammonium Nitrate into the cannister.
You might want to take this next step outside due to the fact that it can ignite from moisture in the air.
I chose not to because it was sprinkling outside =X
Pour it onto the Zinc/ Ammonium Nitrate mixture and once again grind together until it is a uniform mixture.
The film can should be about 1/3 full with a 56/28/14 mixture of
Zinc/Ammonium Nitrate/Ammonium Chloride
Get your plastic wrap and put it over top of the Film can. You want about this much to hang over the side.
Now put about 10 drops of water on the plastic wrap making sure it does not come into contact with your mixture.
Now put on the lid and tighten the plastic wrap by pulling on the sides.
CAREFULLY put the nail through the hole you made in the lid earlier.
Go outside and on a path that is often walked on, dig a small hole deep enough for the film cannister to be just barely covered.
Now cover with dirt so that the nail only is poking out of the ground.
When someone steps on this the nail pushes all of the way through the lid and the plastic wrap and lets the water you put in there earlier to drip onto the Negative X igniting the mixture.
I took a picture too soon but the mixture ignited and glowed brightly with a green and orange flame.
It was a windy day and it made a pretty large amount of smoke.
The cap was blown off and flew a good 15 feet away.

WARNING Negative X burns very hot and send molten zinc flying a few feet. It will fuck your shit up. Take extreme caution when using it. Don’t come to me later saying "ZOMFGZORS I R haz Moltin metul en my ayez!!!"

Some table salt is Ammonium Chloride. I think iodized salt might be it, correct me if I’m wrong, as I don’t really remember.

no icy heat pack...
get the "instant cold packs" the kind in first aid kits. You can go to almost any pharmacy and find them pretty cheap. if you cut it open and find lots of white granules and a small bag of water than you know you have the right stuff. |

will actually I heard of Negative X before I ever heard of united nuclear... it just happens to be where I found the supplies and it just happens to have instructions for the experiment. Mine on the other hand has How to make it with idiots guide instructions, pictures, great use, and the ghetto way to make it for those who cant order online. so basically... shut your face =] |

Well because Neg X takes a couple seconds to react with the water and ignite, the only way someone would be injured is if they stood directly on it while it burned or if they took a real big whiff of the zinc smoke mixed with the Hydrogen Chloride gas from the burning Ammonium Chloride. |

ammonium chloride is not a table salt. Sodium chloride is a table salt and Potassium chloride is the substitute for sodium chloride. ammonium chloride is a salt but not a table salt. |
