One of the most common suspension upgrades on a modded car is installing strut bars. Strut bars are made to connect the two strut towers together as one solid unit.
The reason for strut bars is to try to eliminate flex that strut towers get when you are cornering hard. When taking a hard turn both strut towers flex towards each other, making body flex and losing a lot of traction when cornering at high speeds.A strut tower bar is made to keep your car’s strut tower from flexing towards each other, they distribute the pressure to one of the towers on the inside when taking a hard turn, to both towers. This keeps the wheels gripping on the ground.
A rear strut tower bar is made to stay solid like the front bar by keeping the two rear struts to work together, giving you more chassis stiffness. Rear strut bars almost eliminate under steer on most tuners due to less chassis flex and greatly decreases the chance of a body roll during hard corner braking.
Strut bars must be installed for any upgrade to a wider tire and rim combo. Adding suspension upgrades such as lowering springs, shocks and low profile tires adds extra stress to the chassis which basically creates extra chassis flex that you don’t need. Strut bars not only stiffen up the sub frame and improve chassis stiffness but also make steering quicker and more responsive.
On most cars, strut bars install in mere minutes and they look nice and flashy for that chick that wants to check under the hood. However, I have had many chicks ask to look under my hood and I still think that looks have little to do with performance. To try to eliminate the flex between struts, the chassis should be as rigid as possible.
Sway bars affect the handling of the car on the bottom of the suspension. Sway bars keep the lower suspension together across the front or rear, and has affect how a car over steers or under steers.
Sway bars will keep your car level in turns instead of being unleveled on one side. They distribute the force from the side of the car with all the energy from the turn on it to the opposite side of the car, bringing the whole car to be flat instead of leaning to one side.
Sway bars make your car handle better in corners especially at high speeds, when you need it and work very well if you have a strut tower bar also. However, they can have an bad affect in off-road situations, like rally racing, by leaving one tire completely off the ground.

Nov 07, 2007 3:09 pm - All I do is look for people that type eggs with quasi-decent grammar and punctuation. We all know I am one of the few who actually does that. So I google a sentence, and viola, its c/p.
