NOTE: I am not liable for any damage this causes to your iPod touch.
If something goes wrong, REMEMBER THIS.
To reset your iPod touch, or if it becomes bricked (rarely happens), You need to press the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for about 10 seconds, ignoring the slide to unlock screen. Once you do that, you can hook it up the your computer and restore it with iTunes.
THINGS YOU NEED
-An iPod Touch
-Wireless Internet
-An FTP client that can handle SSH
-Fingers
THE JAILBREAK
Jailbreaking is a process that will allow your iPod touch to have 3rd party applications installed in it, rather than just the limited functionality of the standard firmware. When you jailbreak your ipod, it is opened up to a world of opportunity. You can do such things as add calendar events, play NES (classic nintendo) games, draw with a sketch pad, use SSH to store files on your ipod, and many more. You can also download the current day’s app from i-app-a-day during November.
STEP ONE
Open Safari
Navigate to jailbreakme.com.
If www.jailbreakme.com isn’t working, try one of the following sites.

-http://www.slovix.com/touchfree/jb/
All are valid, but some will not work for you. They’re all basically the same thing.
STEP TWO
Download the file
When you visit the website and click Install AppSnapp, either Safari will crash, or you will see a "Downloading Image..." box.
Once the file is finished downloading, if your ipod is connected to your computer, you will hear a beeping noise, then the "Slide to unlock" screen. Unlock it, and you will see a new button on your menu.
STEP THREE
Install Applications
Tap the Installer button on your menu, and then install the update if possible.
When it’s finished updating, go to the Install tab, and pick the applications you want to install.
They will download, and then you will see the "Slide to Unlock" screen again, and then when you unlock, the application will be there!
STEP FOUR
The NES emulator
  
If you installed the NES emulator, you might notice that there are no ROMs (games). To install the ROMs, you’ll need an FTP client that can handle SSH.
To enable SSH, open the SSH icon (the lightswitch), then touch "Enable SSH".
If you are using a mac, download the program Cyberduck

If you are using a PC, download the program SHTP
http://winscp.net/eng/index.php
The two applications are very similar.
To access your iPod, open Cyberduck or WinSCP, then click Open Connection.
In the protocol drop list, select SFTP (SSH Secure File Transfer)
In the Server field, type in your iPod’s IP address. You can find this in Settings->Wifi by clicking your wireless internet, then the blue arrow. It will list your IP address.
In the Username field, type in root, and in the Password field, type in alpine
Once you are connected, to put a ROM in, You’ll need to create a folder in /Media/ named ROMs, then a folder in that called NES. The directory should be var/root/Media/ROMs/NES/ when you’re finished.
Put your ROMs in there, and when they are done transferring, open the NES application, and voila! You can play NES games!
Congratulations! You have jailbroken your iPod touch and can now install 3rd party applications! |

This is neat, I prefer the microsoft Zune, and hope they will come out with something similar to this soon for the zune (actually, the touch and zune are equal on my list :) ). 5* |

As an added bonus, If you want even more apps, then install BSD Subsystem and Community Sources, which are accessible through Installer. You can then install plenty of applications that are more fun than the default. |

I have wirtten an egg on this, all I needed was pics. My method is different, but 5 stars. The only reason I was gonna post the other method is because this one edits the registry which isnt too good. the other method is safer but not as quick. O well, I guess Ill just delete the word doc with my egg in it. No point in having it. Congrats, 5 and favourite |

I was so tempted to rate a 0 due to it being an Ipod, and I despise them(creative FTW), this is a -fantastic- egg. Good to see stuff like this with all the spam and such. 5*. Keep up the good work! |

For the ROMs to work, i have to have them downloaded on my comp, and then transfer them onto my touch?
