Ok, in this egg I will teach you how to land from heights...
And not hurt yourself.
I realise there is another egg on this but i don’t believe it covered the topic very well.
I personally do freerunning and parkour (all my avatars are of “ME”).
First of all there are 2 types of rolls that work best
I will explain them both...
1. Forwards over your shoulder.
2. Backwards over your back pushing up of your hands and back onto your feet.
1. (Forwards roll over shoulder)
*For this roll you will need to be moving with some pace before the jump or jump out *alot* of whatever it is that your jumping off.
*when you jump out from a run try and angle you’r a body a little, and be jumping out and down not just down.
And make sure you lead with one leg, don’t try and bounce off.
(No seriously, alot of people do this)
And I suggest through pretty much the whole jump until the roll having both arms facing outwards in line with your shoulders like a bird as it keeps you more balanced and does actually slow you down that tiniest bit more
*but if your jumping from standing you should angle yourself allot more, enough so much that you pushing out from the wall.
You don’t have to angle yourself this much but just for an example here’s how much I angle myself.
So now you’re falling at a “down and out” angle yeah. (with a run of the edge where you lead with one foot)
Some people might lose their shape in mid-air and lose control (depending on the degree of your height).
Eg. Try and keep your legs tucked in,
Not like this
Or this...
Cause if you’re not experienced and can’t recover it properly...
it could lead to....
So you should try holding a position between for just a split second longer in the instance between as soon as you’ve jumped and about1-2 metres up of the ground.
Like....
,
(Your knees tucked up, nicely) :)
But if your jumping from standing, there isn’t as much hangtime as the run up and of jump because your body is at this kind of position.
Rather than this kind of position.
So you don’t need to hold any poses, just keep control of your limbs, don’t let them get out of your control.
And move them like this.
Now for the most important part.
The roll!!
When your about 1-2 metres to the ground (depending on the height of your jump)
Start to stretch out your legs.
And by the time your legs make impact they should be completely straight.
Now if you’re going to roll over your right shoulder like i will be just read on if you’re left. Just reverse everything. :P
Cuff your right hand into a fist as you lean forwards falling into the ground.
Also use your left palm to brace a little as well
Lean the weight of the fall into and over your shoulder.
Roll out onto your back, and tuck both knees in, your left knee tighter than your right.
Now if successful the roll should be very quick and from the weight of the jump give you enough momentum to stand back up again with just (maybe) a little help from your left arm.
:)
The backwards roll
Ok im not going to teach you how to do the backflip of a roof cause that would take way too long: P
Il make this one brief...
This roll is alot easier + feels alot easier,
You don’t have to do the hands pushing back up to your feet part if you don’t want to though (handstand pop-up) {i named it :P}
Anyway,
1. As you come to hit the ground fall backwards onto your bum.
Then rolling onto your back
You can’t really explain it much better than that just try it a few times until you get the fell for it.
Now for the handstand pop-up :P.
Ok so still keeping the momentum from the fall roll even further backwards up onto your upper back and get your hands...
Palms up and in line with your shoulders, elbows out front.
Make your palms meet the ground and push up hard
Note my head is not on the ground that is just my hair.
Then simply stand on your own two feet :P
Of push much harder, harder enough so much that you get a little air before you land on your feet again.
:) ok thankyou people hope this was useful to some of you.
Dec 14, 2007 3:00 am - its okay. nice pics and stuff 5*
btw on my wrestling team we have a stretch that is the same as your backward pop-ups. Its called a "leg extension" not a pop-up
Dec 14, 2007 3:03 am - could have used this when i was a babe;
when the doc held me upsidedown & smaked my ass,he was so fucked^ on opium he droped me on my

Dec 14, 2007 2:07 pm - 5* This is the best egg Ive seen in a while. Good job and some good tips. You should put some vids on youtube or something in conjunction with the animated pics you have.
Dec 14, 2007 4:10 pm - YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, this egg fucking rapes in my faves for sho.
wont it be better to have your knees a bit bend to when you land, it naturally bends.
I know some guys when they landed with straight knees, their knees locked and crumbled which resulted in very bad broken knees.
keep the parkour eggs coming! 5* and faves everytime!
Dec 14, 2007 4:51 pm - ok in result to all these queries about the straight legs, if your leaning forwarsd (as you should be )when you have your knees straight as soon as you land your legs will bend, but if your not on the angle there is a chance of buckling your knees yes.
Dec 14, 2007 6:22 pm - 5 *s... Youve got me impressed man... Personally I dont think Id ever try this shit, Ive got a thing about jumping from heights without a bungee... but this was cool as all hell...
