Due to request :P
Here it is;
First of all just so everybody knows it’s called a backsault not a backflip, a backflip is when you use your hands halfway through the flip, a backsault is when you jump from your feet and land on your feet.
Ok so everyone’s seen those tutorials on YouTube of how to backsault and they basically just tell you to jump backwards tuck in blah blah blah,
They don’t teach you how to build up to a backsault, do things similar to a backsault, how to slowly get over the fear…
So that is what I shall do!!!!
No first of all, no-one will be able to go outside stand on flat ground and just do a backsault
(If you know someone who did….. give them your brain as a token of gratitude)
If you have a trampoline, that’s great,
If you don’t…er maybe wouldn’t bother...
Backsault on a trampoline
(Should learn first before anything else)
:)
If you are very amateur at trampoline you should start by doing a simple trick like this…
It looks pretty self explanatory and it is very simple so I won’t give you in depth instructions on it…
(Unless you want me to) in which case ill post it in the comments) :)
This will help give you a bit of the feel of a backsault.
Do this until you can do them confidently with no fear
Now before you try a backsault, I know it looks pathetic but just trust me, try this
Then move your body around a little more
Then keep moving around and doing the trick until your body is pretty much facing forwards but still a little bit twisted and but your still looking over your shoulder when you flip.
(For me I did about twenty times looking at different objects)
Now it’s time to not use your hands.
Very simple if you’ve perfected the previous trick, ( a back “FLIP") .
just jump a little harder and don’t put your hands out and you’ll find you just did a backsault!
But it is still not a proper backsault :P
Simply start to look at things each time coming closer and closer towards in front of you and at the same time starting to bring your body facing forwards more than it is sideways.
10 minutes of this and you should have the backsault on your trampoline in the bag :)
Backsaulting on flat ground
Ok so you’ve got yourselfover the fear...right?
Ok so now teach yourself how to backsault with bouncing (on the tramp)
Then gradually get closer to the edge of the tramp where the amount of spring is low
Now i think its time you get the technique down so that you’ve got everything; over the fear and the technique because that’s all there is to it.
*stand ready arms up high
*as you swing your arms down and behind you bend your legs ready to jump
*swing your arms up and jump UP! Not back UP not back il repeat it once more. UP!
*when your about half way throught the jump and your bodys at a 180 degree angle start to bend your knees in
*grab your upper shins firmly and as tight as you possible can
*if your going of something release the tuck as you see the ground and level yourself out
*if your on a flat just hold your tuck and if you jumped high enough you should land on your feet and maybe fall backwards, if you only just made it you should keep trying a few times until you’ve got your jump high enough and your tuck tight enough.
-then and only then can you release your tuck before you hit the ground
I learnt the technique after this tho...
Well i learnt the hard way its better if you have the technique perfect(by practising on the tramp) before.
I know alot of people won’t have one of these, but alot of schools have them so try and grab an opportunity when you can to have a go on one of them.
*First do a bouncing backsault off and land on the ground behind it
*Then try a standing bounce off and land on the ground behind it
What i personally just did was stand on a mini tramp do a standing bounce backsault off then run over to a table as quick as i could said “fuck it” and just did it.
Because that’s the main thing.....”Just do it”
Then slowly work you way down to on flat.
*find little hills and steep hills and just slowly work your way down :)
Don’t think I can say much more.
Just dont forget the technique and you’l be doing these in no time

Dec 19, 2007 2:32 am - Great job bro.
I’m loving these eggs.
Just a tip for everyone, when you grab your shins try to spread your knees a little so if you stuff up you don’t smash your head on them.
5* man, keep the good work and i’ll keep up the fives.
Dec 19, 2007 7:38 am - Definitely gonna try this in the summer (it’s winter here in Canada :-p). I can do a front flip, or a "forward summersault" on the trampoline, but that’s about the extent of my acrobatic skills.
I can’t wait until May when things warm up and I can have the trampolines set up again, I am definitely gonna try this!
What I love about this egg is the way you build up to it. That’s how I learnt to do a from flip, I started with rolls, and just built up from there. Until now I have not known any way to build up with a backsault, so, thanks a lot!!
5***** from me. Another quality egg by whoyathink.
Dec 19, 2007 8:13 am - Definetly a 5*. I give extra credit for knowing what you are doing. I know alot of retards who have tried to teach backflips but end up failing horribly. This is really in depth and precise. and considering i know how to back flip it checks out with me. Great egg.
Dec 19, 2007 4:21 pm - haha nice i used to do "pro" trampolining and i was getting good so the instructor told me to try a double front flip... i quit after the landing shattered my nose. 5*!
