Okay in this egg I’m going to teach you all how to effectively make Acetone Peroxide in small experiment size quantities.
Before you say anything, yes I know there are eggs on this but they either are lacking in good directions or are incorrect.
WARNING:Acetone Peroxide is EXTREMELY flammable and very sensitive to friction!!! Exercise extreme caution when handling this compound... This experiment is meant to make only the amount shown DO NOT make any more than this!
ITEMS NEEDED: Acetone
Hydrogen Peroxide
Sulfuric acid (found in some drain cleaners)
Stove or Burner
Refridgerator
Pan or pot
Test tube
3 mL dropper
Glass or Jar
Table salt
Ice
Funnel
Coffee filters
Now that you have all of your Items together,
We’re going to start by putting the Sulfuric acid, Acetone, and your Glass or Jar in the freezer while doing the first step.
Grab your Peroxide, test tube, and funnel...
Now most Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) you buy from a store is only 3%. What we’re going to do is concentrate the H2O2 to about 13% for better results in this experiment.
Now fill the test tube almost to the top with H2O2 using your funnel.
Now dump it in your pot or pan.
Do this once more. So now you should have two test tubes of H2O2 in your pot.
Set the pot onto your stoves burner and set to Medium.
After a short period of time the H2O2 will begin yo boil off.
Every minute measure the amount left. You want there to be a little less H2O2 than a half of a test tube.
Set the test tube in your glass and let it cool for a few minutes...
Now put a few TBS’s of salt in your GLASS.
Now fill the glass with ice and water.
Use the test tube to stir the salt and ice bath around.
For those of you who may not know adding salt to an ice bath makes the temperature drop lower than normal. This whole process needs to be conducted at a temperature below 50 degrees F. If not then the end product will have a different chemical structure than what we’d like to create and be TOO sensitive. No need for me to go into details, just take my word for it.
Now Take your acetone out of the freezer. By now it should be under 50 deg.F
Open it and using the funnel pour enough into the test tube for there to be an inch of air left in it.
Take your sulfuric acid out of the freezer and get your dropper. Open it and suck 2.5 mL Of it out.
DROP BY DROP add the acid to your test tube which should be sitting the salt-ice bath. If you add it too quickly theres the possibility of the mixture rising above 50F. So about 1 drop per second is fine.
Use a coffee stir to mix it up if it isnt already homogenous.
Now depending on how god feels about your procedure, temperature, and measurments, you might see Acetone Peroxide start precipitating immidiately.
This is directly after I added all of the acid.
Now set the tube back into the salt-ice bath and leave it alone for a while.
Aww poor people who don’t have the things you need to make this... BUT TODAY IS YOUR LUCKY DAY!!!
I’ve decided that since there will be questions about if you can use fingernail polish or not, since it has a high acetone content, when making Acetone Peroxide.
This is the Ghetto version for making Acetone Peroxide! And I have no idea wether it will work or not because I’ve never had to try, so this is a learning experience for me as well and I have no idea what the outcome will be!
ITEMS NEEDED: Nail polish remover
3% Hydrogen Peroxide
Drain Cleaner w/ sulfuric or hydrochoric acid.
Funnel
Ice
Table salt
Glass or jar
3 mL dropper
Coffee filters
Now that you have your materials together,using your funnel fill half of the test tube with H2O2 and half with fingernail polish remover. Dont forget to leave some extra space at the top.
Now put 5 mL of drain cleaner in with it and use a straw to stir it all together.
Now set it in a salt-ice bath.
Now put the glass into your Fridge
Now leave that alone for a while.
Now go grab your coffee filter...
What we’re going to do is fold it so it can be easily placed into the funnel and be used to filter the Acetone Peroxide from its solution.
Fold the coffee filter in half then fold in half again. Should look like this.
Now set it in your funnel and find the fold closest to the outside of the filter.
Pull that back and fit it properly to your funnel and you’ll have this!
I checked on the first tube and found that the reaction was mostly complete (normally takes between 12-24 hours)
Now dump your mixture into the funnel with the filter in it.
This is a pretty good yeild for a test tube to produce.
Now it has to mostly dry before you use it.
To help it dry break it up into smaller chunks when it becomes had enough to.
Well congratualtions you just made Acetone Peroxide!
"What do I do with it?" you ask...
Well I though to a few random uses putting its high flammability for use.
Set it on fire! the most obvious idea of course.
Tiny amount...
Larger amount
With this one I filled a small container made out of scotch tape halfway with DAMP AP...
Now put a SMALL amount of AP in the emptied section.
Now stuff it back with the toothpick and the next time someone comes up to you and asks for a cigarette you give them this one =] They most likely wont ask you for another after that!
I put myself on the line to show you what happenes with the cig...
Pretty great results for such a tiny amount! and will most likely scare the shit out of whoever you prank!
Make APAN
APAN is a mixture of Acetone Peroxide and Ammonium Nitrate...it is used very often by erm...free-lancers.
ITEMS NEEDED: Acetone Peroxide
Ammonium Nitrate
Grind up some Ammonium Nitrate
Mix half and half with Acetone Peroxide
This is APAN when ignited.
I used the last bit of AP for this video.
So now I’m going to check up on the ghetto experiment!
Filtering the solution...
To my own surprise it actually worked!
Now just dry it out.
For all of you who denied that it would work with Fingernail polish remover, you are now proven wrong.
This actually produced a good yeild for being only 3% peroxide and fingernail polish remover...needless to say this AP smelled pretty nice and also seemed to be MUCH more sensitive to heat. Probably due to the impurities from the fingernail polish remover.
I decided to use all of the AP produced here to put in another cigarette.

Correct me if I’m wrong but if DDT could form on sulfuric acid alone, couldn’t that just be easily resolved by rinsing the AP crystals several times with water after adding some sodium bicarbonate?

Boiling Hydrogen peroxide(h202) does not get rid of it, it gets rid of h20.Maybe you meant h20??
Also, putting it in someones cigarette is a definite no no.
You used damp AP. If that were to dry out which it most likely would when someone asked you for a cigarette, you’d either make them deaf for a while or injure them. I would not recommend you using that in a cigg unless your willing to suffer the consequences.
Also, not safe to make AP the way you did. I would reccomend you adding the excact amount required and adding them correctly. Don’t just start adding the Sulfuric acid immediately, you are supposed to add it
very slowly, and using a thermometer and keep it around 0-5 degrees. If adding the acid to fast, you have a great chance of making dimeric acid which is not stable and could explode at any time.
You obviously do not know how to use APAN.
Simply mixing AP & AN does not make your AP any stronger. You need a blasting cap or something similar to detonate it. Possible a blasting cap consisting some AP and depending on how much APAN you have may require a stronger blasting cap. Also, possibly ball milling your AN will make a difference as well.
You forgot the step of rinsing your final product with some baking soda to decrease the risk of accidental detonation

6% 100% 2.5:1
12% 100% 1.25:1 (what I used)
14% 100% 1:1
I added the sulfuric acid dropwise not all at once and kept it on a salt-ice bath to ensure it doesnt go above 50F (10C) any temp above that forms the highly sensitive diclo- AP I warned for that in the egg. Yeah APAN is meant to be used with a squib or as a booster for ANFO I was just demonstrating the properties.
Dec 24, 2007 12:16 am - I’ve never thought an explosive egg should be pulled for safety reasons until now. First of all, chemicals should always be measured, its just common sense. The fact that you boil HP in a cooking pot and that you use nail polish remover when filtering means the purity is probably shit. That explains why that is the slowest burning AP I have ever seen. The idea of putting a high explosive in ones mouth or using it for pranks is a horrible idea and is exactly the reason these kinds of things are so heavily restricted. Had that been quality acetone peroxide in the cigarette, it would have probably detonated. There are just so many things wrong with this egg I could go on and on. My biggest concern is how many people rated this egg 5* They have obviously never seen a synthesis for a high explosive and are probably going to attempt this. Not that I care if some idiot kid hurts himself, but this kind of mistake would probably get Rotteneggs in trouble and possibly put an end to any kind of information about high explosives. I’m sorry, but I think this egg should be pulled. How to make acetone peroxide can be found all over the internet, but you simplified it so much that the common idiot will be making explosives.
That explains why that is the slowest burning AP I have ever seen.
If you have ever delt with AP you would have noticed that, that was damp AP. He didn’t wait for it to dry
He also managed to admit that it wasnt the brightest idea and that he made a few mistakes wich to me makes him more intelligent than the average Rottenegger :)
And some people on here will probly get hurt from this

C: they have no backround in HE’s or pyrotechnics and thought this would be a good way to start out
Also would like to say, that AP (Acetone peroxide) shouldnt be delt with because it is VERY sensitive, Very powerful and Very easy to fuck up with
AP has a VOD (velocity) of 5300m/s look it up and compare it to VOD of other HE

The reason it’s so slow burning is because it was still damp. I think I should have the egg deleted as well. You’re right this could get RE into trouble and if the ATF found it... yeah.

I’ve made AP a few times myself, but simplifying the manufacture of a high explosive this much and posting it on this website is a mistake in my opinion. I suggest that if one wants to create a high explosive egg, dont make it so simple that any retard with no chemical background can do it. Write it scientifically. Even if it is still very easy to perform, it will still be enough to confuse the kind of retard that nobody wants making high explosives. I’m glad you see things the way I do, the way someone truly interested in explosives as a hobby would. I might suggest removing this egg and posting a new one and make it look a little more professional. Steal some glassware from school or something.
