Briefing
I’m sure that the majority of you here on RottenEggs are familiar with making GIFs. There are quite a few eggs here teaching you how to make GIFs, only most of them involve the use of Adobe Photoshop CS2 and ImageReady.
However, ever since Photoshop CS3 came out, people have still been using the old ImageReady method, assuming Photoshop can’t do it alone. Until a few days ago, I thought the same. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how Photoshop CS3 Extended owners can create GIFs without the use of neither Photoshop CS2 nor ImageReady.
Tutorial
Step 1. First things first: open up Photoshop CS3 Extended. In this case, I have a picture of Leo from VG Cats and will be using him as a back ground for my GIF.
Step 2. Now, you want make a set of layers that contain either the images or text you want in your animation. Mine are a few sets of words. It isn’t a problem if they’re all bunched up and wild looking. It will not matter later.
Step 3. Now that you have all the things you need prepared for the animation, click on Window and then from the drop down menu, click Animation.
Step 4. Once you’ve clicked Animation, odds are that you will get a Timeline. Instead of a Timeline, click the Convert To Frame Animation button to work with frames.

Step 5. Now instead of just working with one composition, click the Make Frames From Layers option to work with all your layers.
Result
Step 6. Now, as you can see, if you click on one of your layers, nothing else is visible but the layer itself (e.g only "ZOMG!1" is visible.)
Step 7. To fix the problem in Step 6, simply turn on the visibility of whatever layer you want for that layer (e.g Leo Background layer.)
Step 8. Do so for all wanted layers.
Result
Step 9. Now, if you press play you can see that the playback speed of the animation is ridiculously fast. To fix this click the Delay button and set the amount of delay until the next frame. For the tutorials sake, each frame will only be delayed 0.5 seconds.
Step 10. After you’ve found the proper amount of time, change the Loop Settings to Forever, so that your Animation Loops on continualy.
Step 11. Finally, click on File and from the drop down menu select Save For Web & Devices... From there you’ll get an option for a multiple amount of output setting. By default they should be ready for perfect GIF, web-ready settings. Just choose you’re output folder, click Save and your ready to upload to sites such as Photobucket.
