it’s easy to install the EyeToy as a webcam for Windows, and it’s actually worth doing
- the picture quality is excellent, and equals many of the more expensive webcams made
specifically for computers. The EyeToy will work for video messaging, making
movies and MSN. I’ve used the EyeToy as a webcam on a few different computers without any problems.
Installation is entirely at your own risk.
note: When you plug your eyetoy into the usb port it will say the eyetoy is either Logitech or Namtai. both will require a different driver.
these are the download links:
another note: i did this with the Namtai driver, it’s exactly the same for logictech.
step 1:
Open Device Manager by going to Start Menu > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager. Plug your EyeToy into your computer’s USB port - if Windows gives you a “Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard” popup, cancel it and continue installing via Device Manager. You EyeToy should appear in the Device Manager list under “Imaging devices” and should have a big yellow exclamation alert next to it. It will also tell you which model EyeToy you have - either Namtai or Logitech.
Then download and extract the appropriate drivers for your EyeToy.
step 2:
Still in Device Manager, right click on your EyeToy and select “Update Driver”.
step 3:
Select no for the updates.
step 4:
choose the option in the pic below.
step 5:
Browse to the folder where you extracted the drivers.
step 6:
You can safely click ‘Continue anyway’ here. This warning just means that Microsoft doesn’t recognize the drivers and have not given them the “Microsoft Stamp Of Approval”.
step 7:
Just click OK.
step 8:
Read the prompt, look and see where you are, then click Yes or No.
step 9:
Done!
Test it out.
To easily test your EyeToy as a webcam, you can use VIDCAP32.exe, which is included with the drivers. This is a webcam preview application that tests if Windows has successfully been able to install your EyeToy as a webcam - just open it and click on ‘preview’.

Jan 14, 2008 8:09 am - ^ the eyetoy isn’t ment to be a normal webcam dumbfuck. go get an eyetoy, plug it in and just try to make it work without any of the drivers. result, you can’t!
