I love to run and one of the major problems with running is the cramps you get if you haven’t ran for a while or if you are running for a long period of time. Doing the following will prevent cramps and help you keep up your run.
1. Start by warming up, slowly jog for 5 minutes bringing your knees up pretty high.
2. Follow up your warm up run with stretches. A few major muscles you should stretch are your calfs, knees, thighs/hamstrings, shoulders, hips and stomach/abs. To stretch your stomach, do around 30-50 situps before you run.
3. And finally, a thing that I find GREATLY helps you keep a pace is to eat 1 or 2 banannas. Banannas are very high in potassium witch is what keeps your muscles from cramping.
If you do get a cramp, try to keep going, it will eventually go away. If it is so bad you need to stop, slow down but DON’T walk, walking slows your heart rate down and it will be harder to start running again.
Well that’s all of my little guide, I hope it helps some of you runners out there.
