Pen land mine. The trip wire bomb and prank bomb are just concept bombs that i have not tried. the land mine i have successfully created and tested. the pictures are pretty self explanatory on how to build them. i’ll describe the land mine only because from there you should understand how they work.

GUIDE TO PICTURE:
blue-parts of the BIC pen
red-one 8-shot ring cap
red-firecracker from party popper (pic4)
black-gun powder(can be substituted for matchheads, liquids, roll caps, etc.)

Land mine:
1. from a BIC brand pen, you will need the tube, plug, and cone piece. throw away cap and ink cartridge. (you need the pen tube on the left with the cone piece)
2. make a careful mixture of match head powder, rollcaps, and powder from 8-shot ring caps.
3. carefully place a single ring cap piece on top, with the inside of cap facing up. put the cone piece of pen back in. take the nail and slowly insert it into the hole and cap.
4. find a hole in the ground and place the mine nail side up(only the nail should be sticking out above the ground).
5. to set the mine off just step on the nail. this will explode the ring cap, setting off the mixture inside.

be creative, you’re not limited to just pens. film canisters and bottle caps work great too. you could also put a bunch mines in the same area, set a sheet of cardboard,plywood, or other thin material on top of them to make a larger simaltaneuos explosion.

I’m wondering if setting off your own land mine by stepping on it is perhaps a bad idea. Maybe you should test it by dropping a weight on it.
Also, would the mere force of somebody stepping on this be enough to set it off? During the average step, weight is not generally applied all at once, and a round cap isn’t super-sensitive. If it works, cool, but I’m just curious to see if this would go off simply from being stepped on.
Feb 17, 2008 4:53 pm - yes! an average step does set this off. thanks for the concern for me stepping on my own mine, but this really is n’ tthat deadly of an explosion. it’s like a large black cat, bigger explosion, more power, and a lot more sparks. but it is no where close to causing bodily harm. if you substituted gun powder for the match dust, maybe that will do something.
Feb 18, 2008 1:34 pm - Yeah, the gunpowder thing is what raised the concern. I looked at the MS paint pictures, and thought, "They don’t even put that much powder in most bullets. That could take your foot off!" I guess as long as you’re not using powder, though, you’re fine. I like the schematics for the tripwire bomb, too. If you want, I can test this one out for you. It looks fun to build.
Feb 18, 2008 6:43 pm - oh hell, sure these things are still incredibly powerful too, i’d add the video for it but adobe PHOTOSHOP just fucks everything up when it comes to putting vids on a computer. i made a little stand for the land mine to test above ground so only like an inch of pen was hidden. i hit with a hammer and even with my paintball mask i thought i lost my hearing for a minute or two. hmm, could you test it with sparkler powder? i’m not sure how powerful it would be, but it’d be a lot easier than matchheads.
Feb 21, 2008 3:16 pm - Match heads, I’ve discovered, are much quicker and easier to obtain if you cut them off paper matches. Those heads tend to be slightly larger, too. Personally I like paper caps, though. I’ll play around with different design schemes.
Feb 26, 2008 8:32 am - ATTENTION for those of you who seem to not have the time to get so many matchheads, cut the pen tube in half and you will only require literally 20 matches to fill it up. OOOOH! and sparkler powder does work pretty well for flash and bang!

I have the perfect pen.
I have tons of very long nails.
Caps are a little harder to get because i’m only 16. Canada blows! You have to be 18 to buy caps here.
