War driving is done from a laptop or a PDA. You drive around finding wi fi spots. Some of the things you need are...
➤Laptop computer—To run the war driving software and record
results
➤Wireless network adapter—To scan the airwaves for wireless networks
➤External antenna and pigtail—To increase range
➤Some form of mobility, like a car, bike, boat, stroller, or even feet
➤Scanning software —The actual program doing the scanning
➤GPS unit —Optional; use this to plot hotspots on a map
The software that i use is..
NetStumbler
Made for handy, simple war driving using Windows 98,Windows 2000, and Windows XP,
NetStumbler is available at www.stumbler.net. This is by far the easiest program to use to
get started and produces great results.
MiniStumbler
Made for war driving using a PDA running Microsoft Pocket PC 2002, the MiniStumbler is
available from www.stumbler.net.
Kismet
Made for war driving using a laptop or PDA running Linux, Kismet is available from
www.kismetwireless.net.
Here are some places to visit to get you started:
Your own neighborhood
Industrial parks
Downtown
Highways and freeways
There is alot of info on google about War Driving its not hard to find. All the software I use is free to download. This egg only talks about the very basics of War Driving. But It will help you get your feet wet.
It’s time to get on the road. Start small at first.Drive up and down your street
to see how far away your home network is visible. Then start driving around the neighborhood.
You will be surprised where wireless networks appear. And you will be even more surprised
when the names people have chosen for their network SSID comes across your screen. Be prepared
for the humorous, laughable, obscene, and bizarre.
A remarkable number of access points are using the default configuration. Many people buy an
AP and just plug it in. Since most APs are designed to work out of the box, people just leave
them at the minimum configuration.

Also, none of the idiots at RE would know what to do with wardriving, or why they should do it.
Mar 03, 2008 2:37 pm - NOT C/P
just a rather poor egg. needs expansion. why do you do it? Making antenna? Charting locations? I would do it, but i think there might be a few in the directory already.
Mar 03, 2008 4:18 pm - Yes there is alot more to War driving. But I was trying to keep is simple and easy to follow. I will make a egg of the external antenna that I made. Also you can use GPS with microsoft maps to chart where you find hot spots.
Mar 04, 2008 9:25 am - include a way of getting around WEPs and WPS-TSKs passwords on a psp and i’ll 5* all your material.
until then i’m holding my vote.
