This prank is so simple that i am surprised that noone i mentioned it to ever thought of it before. It causes a usb device to stop functioning without damaging the device in any way. This works best with a usb mouse or keyboard as those are essential but can be used to piss anyone with a flash drive off.
the procedure is basic, using a small square of paper, cover the 4 copper strips in the USB port or plug and it will not work. Nobody will think of looking for piece of paper until after getting utterly frustrated trying to figure it out. `You could also cover the mouse light (for a optical mouse) with another piece of paper as a false trail.
Mar 14, 2008 11:45 pm - that was no done to me 7-11, the seniors, for their prank put paper over the botom of every mouse in the school, and i thought of this wen i saw it.
M r 14, 2008 11:57 pm - and kapraxis, the entire point of paper in this prank is in case they look for the reason, they’ll find one, think it’s fixed, and then be even more annoyed when it still doesn’t work
but the scotch tape does sound cool.
When just about any plug-related device decides to fuck up on me, I immediately do two things. First I check the plug itself. Next, I check the port it plugs into. If you tried this on me, you would have succeeded in causing me about two seconds worth of being somewhat annoyed. I feel most people would probably react the same way, since it’s a fairly logical course of action.
Mar 15, 2008 10:55 pm - well you’d be surprised about how many people are completely dumb asses. in 5th grade my teachers used to make me fix the computer because she couldn’t figure out how to work the ctrl+alt+dlt thing haha
Mar 16, 2008 11:16 am - well, magic as kastang said, you will be surprised at the number of complete dumb-asses there are, plus some people just blow into the plug without looking...
Mar 19, 2008 9:15 am - I got a better one: shove a key into the usb port. This WILL cause the computer to shut down. Though I have done this many times without hardware damage, I must insist that you don’t do this with your friends new ultraownage expensive computer.
