In this egg I will show you how to rip a dvd using the VLC Player. If your Don’t have VLC you can download it at http://www.videolan.org/v c/ So to start go to File>Open Disk.
For Disk type use DVD without Menus.
Device Name is the Drive where you have the DVD you want to rip.
Title.. you can change if the movie that your going to rip has previews at the beginning you can skip them by starting with title 1 or title 2. All the movies that I have done have been 0 or 1 to skip the previews. You might have to try it a few times to get passed the previews.
Chapter... leave at 0 that way you get all the chapters of the movie.
Subtitles... track and Audio track leave at -1.
Then you will click Stream/Save thats what lets you rip the DVD.
Then click the settings Button... Then in the Stream output window click the file box. Then click the browse.. button and choose where you want to save where the file will be saved. When you save your file save it as mp4 file.
Then click the Encapsulation Method and click the same file type that you saved your file from the above step, so mp4.
Then select the video codec from the Transcoding options Select DIV3 Bitrate is the quality of the video just remember the higher the bitrate the larger the file. 1024 should be fine. Audio codec select mp3 with a bitrate of 192 there again it might sound better with a higher bitrate but again the file will be huge. Thats it for the settings. You can click the Play Locally box to watch the file being ripped but it will go alot slower.
Then click ok and the dvd will start to be generated. It will take about a hour or 2 to rip the dvd. The status bar will tell you how much time is left to rip the cd. So it still takes a while but it works really good. So I guess the reason I really like using VLC is cause you can choose the codec that you want to use.
