This is an egg on how to get your beverage of choice cold extremely fast with very little effort.
You will need:
-Drink (can, bottle, keg, w/e)
-Ice
-Salt (table or rock salt)
-Container (cooler, trashcan, bathtub)
Ok you have three options depending on your amount of beverage.
===================================================================
1) Small amount of cans/bottles (6 pack or something less than 10)
=================================================================== Find something that can hold all your cans/bottles with ample room for ice and water (cooler/pot/bucket).
Fill this about 1/4 of the container with ice. Then fill it up 1/2 way with water.
Now mix in a shit load of salt- about 2 cups. Rock salt will give you the coldest/fastest results.
You might want to use a spoon because it will be effin cold!
Submerge your drinks in the ice/salt liquid. Put something on top of them to keep them under water,
or you can just stand there with the mixing spoon and hold em down.
In 3 to 5 minutes all of them will be ice cold.
==================================================================
2)Large quantity of cans/bottles (12 pack and up)
================================================================== The hardest part for this many cans/bottles is finding a good storage tank.
if have a shit ton then one of these troughs will be the best way to go.
Muk buckets work well to, but sometimes the water gets too cold to retrieve the beverage.
Rolling coolers work good for the 12-24 range.
Anyways. Start off by pouring a layer of ice in the bottom of your container.
Coat this with a generous amount of salt. Just shake it out evenly one handful at a time.
Now put your cans in. Add another layer of ice and salt. Repeat till cooler/container is full.
Every can/bottle will be ice cold in 5 to 10 minutes.
=================================================================
3) Keg (Maybe a nice root beer keg)
================================================================= Pretty much the same as the 1st process described except you will need a bigger container.
Trash cans and muck buckets work good.
Fill up the container with ice and water. Add about 4 cups of salt and mix thoroughly.
Now When putting the keg in, push down and spin the keg so it can carve out a nice little place in the ice.
Finally salt the top of the keg, then add ice to it. then add a little more salt. (This topping can be redone throughout the night)
NOTE: The only reason you’d want to make a keg that cold that fast is if you have a lot of people and plan to drink it realllll fast.
If you want the keg to last all night, don’t add the salt. The salt will actually melt the ice and leave you with a semi cool beverage after a long while.
May 15, 2008 8:40 pm - This does work well. The reason it works is ice has a temperature below freezing. When you put ice in water, the water can only go down to about 32*f. It stays there, just above freezing until all the ice melts. The beverage container has more area in contact with the water than the ice, so you’re cooling it with about 32*, and it takes a long time to get it cold.
By adding salt, you’re lowering the freeze point. The water can then go well below freezing. That means that the temperature differential between the beverage container and the water is much greater, and the beverage will chill much quicker. You can even actually freeze a drink if you leave it in too long.
Sorry to ramble in your egg...
Anyway, 5*. Works well! :-D
