Egg Points and the Member Level System
Q. What is the Member Level System?
The Member Level system is a simple way for other Members to rank and reward those individuals that contribute to the site. The more you contribute, the higher your Member Level is.
Q. How do I upgrade my Member Level
First you need enough Egg Points (see the next question), if you're ready with Egg Points then simply click 'Profile', then 'Upgrade My Member Level'. This will allow you to advance to your next Level.
Q. What are Egg Points
Egg Points are the currency used here on rotteneggs.com. They are accumulated by voting on profiles and Eggs, they are also accumulated when people vote on your profile and Eggs. Here's a breakdown of how it works :
- Points are generated when you vote. The value of the point is 1 point times your Member Level. For example if you are Level 10, every vote you cast is worth 10 points to you.
- Points are also generated when people vote for you or your Eggs. The multiplier in this case is the vote value times the persons Member Level. For example, if a Level 10 votes a 5 for you or your Eggs, it would be worth 50 points to you. Votes of 0 do not generate points.
- Points are automatically earned by interest. Much like a savings account, every day you visit you will earn points by interest. Your current interest rate is located on your 'Your Egg Points' page, located under 'Profile'. The interest rate is directly related to your participation at rotteneggs.com
The system rewards well written Eggs and profiles, allows lower Level members the chance to advance quickly if they produce quality Eggs, and gives older Members an incentive to continue their contributions.
Q. How often can I vote?
You can vote as often as you like. However you can only vote once per week for any particular Egg or profile. The system will disregard any votes cast multiple times for any one profile or Egg.
Q. How many Points can I earn a day?
There is a daily limit on the amount of Points you earn in a day. For a comprehensive list of Levels, Limits and Your current Level information, see Upgrade my Member Level.
Q. So what's the big deal with being having a high Member Level? Why should I vote? What do I get?
Being a higher level member will allow you to change the landscape of rotteneggs.com. The weight of your vote is directly related to your member level. This is called Member Influence. So the higher your level, the bigger the influence you have when you praise the good stuff and diss the junk. We have an evolving system. We need votes to ensure the quality of the Egg Directory stays fresh with good stories and does not become overrun with useless information. But to answer your last question, here's the current reward structure :
