Ok, so you want to make black powder good enough to lift shells, roman candles, and mines without ordering things off the internet? Well this egg will teach you how.
First off you will need a Lowes, Home Depot, and Toys ’R’ Us (or other toy store) in your area.
Getting the Kno3
Alright, now this is going to cost you around $5 a pound. Go to Lowes, or another hardware store and look for "Spectracide Stump Remover" It will look like this.

Now, if you can find Stump Remover, but cant find one that looks like that, then look at the bottle and see if it says something along the lines of "Warning Contains Potassium Nitrate". If it says that, your in luck. If it doesn’t say that, you’re out of luck.
Getting the Sulfur
This is going to cost you around $3-$7 a pound.
Drive over to Home Depot, or another hardware store. Go directly to the garden section, you know that little outdoor place, where they sell the plants and supplies for plants? Now, look at the supplies for growing plants, and look for a bag that reads "Garden Sulfur". This is what you want, make sure it is atleast 90% sulfur or up. It will most likely come in a bag like this [This Member can not display images, they need to upgrade Member Level] They will come in little prills that you will need to grind up. Use a coffee grinder, mortar and pestal, or some other means of grinding into a fine powder.
Obtaining The CharcoalCharcoal will be the easiest thing to find. Before anyone asks... DO NOT USE BBQ BRIQUETTES!
Drive up to Lowes, or any hardware store, and go to the grilling section. Look for a big ass bag of "Cowboy Brand Lump charcoal". This will be cheap, around $3 for 8 pounds. If there isn’t Cowboy Brand, then get any bag of "Lump Charcoal". It will come in a bag like this [This Member can not display images, they need to upgrade Member Level]
Getting The Ballmill
So, you have all the chemicals to make black powder, but it’s shitty cause you can’t grind it. (unless you use a coffee grinder, but it’s still not fast). So you will need a ballmill. Go to your local toy store and look for a "Rock Tumbler. It will look kiddish, like this [This Member can not display images, they need to upgrade Member Level] This will cost you $20-$30.
Finding Milling MediaYou will need some media to go into your ball mill to crush the powder when the mill is rotating. All you need for this is COINS. Quarters, pennies, nickles. Just use around 50 of them, if not more. They always worked for me.
Now you can make quality black powder at home, without trying to order everything off the internet and waiting. Of course this will not be cheaper than ordering off the internet, but not everybody can.
That’s it. |

Kno3-75%
charcoa -15%
sulfur-10%
A d If you’re smart enough to already know where to get the supplies, your smart enough to know the ratio... |

 | Sep 22, 2008 4:54 pm - Don’t use any coins besides nickles and quarters because it might make a spark. That is not good.
Other wise 5*s |

 | Sep 24, 2008 12:39 am - Making black powder involves alot more than just mixing the chemicals together you jackass. Black powder in and of itself has no where near enough power to propel a roman candle, or shell. 0* |

 | Sep 25, 2008 5:13 am - Pretty good alternative sources of ingredients. 5* for the info. |

 | Nov 15, 2008 12:29 pm - i have used stump remover in smoke bombs... so i already have all but the tumbler .... this is a new project....lol...... 5* | |
