Clearing up Hard Disk Space (Windows only, Sorry Mac owners)

Hey guys, I haven’t written an egg in a while so I decided to write another one :) (I apologize for the white on the bottom and of each screenshot which makes the images smaller, it wouldn’t go away in paint >< )
Everyone has a bunch of clutter on their hard drive, including temporary files, which is what we will be thoroughly cleaning. This method I have seen clean up to 600MB per user name.
We will be using a program called CCleaner to clean up our hard drive.
Step 1
Download and install CCleaner from http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/download/86e6a458e780243c3a944b66ec60b319/
NOTE Be sure you UNTICK any boxes that have anything to do with installing the Yahoo toolbar.
Step 2
Run CCleaner by double clicking its .exe
A window like  will appear.
Step 3
In the Windows tab, keep all default boxes ticked, however, in the Applications tab, tick all boxes.
Step 4
Go into the Options section on the left side and then Advanced. Untick the box labeled "Only delete files older than 48 hours".
Step 5
Go back to the Cleaner page on the left. Click Analyze. It will begin to run and tell you how much disk space it will clean. I run it every few days, so my space cleaned isn’t very high. The program should look like so when its finished running:

You may review which items it will be cleaning, but if you don’t wish to, click Run Cleaner it will now clean your files :)
Further Notes and Warnings
Do NOT use the registry cleaner built in with CCleaner. Registry cleaners are unsafe and provide little if any performance boost to your computer.
You may use the Startup section of CCleaner, located under the Tools on the left hand side, to disable any unnecessary startup programs.
You must run this program on EACH user account to clean completely. It only removes files on the user name it is run on.
The amount of space it will clean depends on the clutter of your hard drive. I have been able to clean up to 600MB on machines that haven’t been cleaned in a while. It should clean a lot more the first run than on subsequent runs. |

The previous egg was only for vista users and is accomplished by lessening the amount of disk space that system restore can use, which isn’t a good idea. This works in all versions of windows.
I do appreciate the explanation of the rating though :) |

No problem. I understand that the last one was vista specific, but like I said there have been a million variations to this egg already posted on RE. Some originality would be nice. |

and also, i hate bring me the horizon, the singer is such a faggot and their music is not very original.

I’m giving you a five because you obviously put fourth good effort on this egg. However, I think it’s sad you need a third party utility to clean off less than 1 GB of space from a MacIntrash. Don’t get me wrong, Macs are beloved by artists and musicians everywhere and I own some of their stock. But still. 5 stars |

i have this program and when i cleaned my computer once it cleaned almost 2.5 Gb’s worth of cookies, temp internet files, and browser history. |

Turdsammiches- I love BMTH, I too have heard that their vocalist (Ollie Sykes) is a douche bag, he supposedly pissed on a female fan, but I’m not going to judge their music because of that. I’m not saying they are original, or the best band, their music just appeals to me. I also like a bit of Whitechapel, but I prefer Suicide Silence over them (I know I am going to be bashed for liking SS, but so be it.) Its all musical tastes/interests. I don’t want to start a band war here ;) My favorite band is The Devil Wears Prada anyways. I’m seeing them in a week with Sky Eats Airplane, Emarosa and A Day to Remember :D
As for everyone else, I appreciate all the ratings/comments, negative or positive. I don’t get offended over the internet and only use the comments to help me in future eggs that I plan on writing eventually. |
