I am a former checkout operator from one of Australia’s many k-mart stores. throughout my 2 years of checkout service i developed a burning hatred for my beloved employer.
If your k-mart has the old registers (many if not most still do, any register without a touch screen) the register code is "-TOTAL (not "sub total")
-"0"
-"ENTER"
-"4"
-"ENTER"
But before this you need a login user and password. this is easily acquired because k-mart employees blatantly enter their passwords in front of customers so just scope out one particular person.
the user is usually 3 digits:
eg. "932"
then you must press enter
then it will ask for a password. this is 4 digits but changes every three months.
eg. "1567"
once the password is entered a button that says "sign on/off" is pushed.
if everything is correct the user is logged on and ready to enter codes.
k-mart employees make their passwords very simple:
eg. "1112"
NEXT 3 MONTHSeg. "1113"
this is from ME. A RECENT ex-employee of k-mart Australia.

Oct 07, 2009 6:39 pm - ive found that because target, k-mart etc all come under the same corporate organization (colesgroup) the reason codes etc are the same. so even if the store has touch screen computers rather than the old ones just follow the same procedure and just look for the same buttons.
