There are many air cannons out there but here is the right way to make one.
First you must have a resavour for the air, make this out of steel (it only needs to be a steel tube with a 3 inch diameter and 6 inches long).
Now use a industrial strength butterfly valve and weld it on the front of the resivour. If you don’t know how to weld ask a buddy that knows how. Now cut a hole in the back of the resivour and weld a adapter for a co2 tank in it. Add a valve so you can controol the air intake(use one that will regulate the pressure that goes in your resivour). Now test the resivour and butterfly valve assembly for leaks by using air from a compressor and soapy water. Now the cannon should operate at 30 to 70 psi for the best and safest peformance. The barrel can be made out of pvc and you decide how long it is. If it is longer than three feet add a breach loading mechanism. The picture may clear up some confusion:
Grey: co2 tank and valve assembly
Green: barrel
Dark Green: handle
Red: resivour
Blue and Brown: butterfly valve assembly
Disclaimer: if the cannon is built wrong it can explode. Do not forget to install a pressure regulator on the co2 tank!
Mar 30, 2006 9:02 pm - this sucks you can use pvc pipe made for compressed air 1. its alot cheaper 2. its easyer to make 3. it dosent weigh a pound and 4. you dont need to weld
