I didn’t explore this site myself, a ukrainian friend alina e-mailed it to me. I can’t copy and paste this e-mail because my mac is such a fucking bitch. Anyway, here goes-- Alina was walking around the shore or sevastopol, a mile or so away from the main city. Sevatopol is a city in the crimean peninsula in ukraine. Its that little blob of land on the north coast of the black sea. Anyway, it was the site of the german’s siege of sevastopol in world war two. The germans blockeded this city, and only a trickle of supplies came in from air and from sea. The germans also bombarded this city with the biggest gun in the history of the world the gustav, a huge piece of railway artillary that required a crew of 200, and required 4 tracks. The germans also bombed the city withought mercy, thousands aupon thousands of explosive raining from the sky, churning the rubble. The civilians took refuge in sea caves near the shore, with were huge geological formations that were probably the width and hight of a town church. The russian military also used these caves to store supplies. Alina explored one such of these caves and surrounding area, finding a blown out tank, the turret gone, climbing into the rusted hull, with wiring hanging out. There were also pillboxes and huge shell craters. U can also find bis of shrapnel and bullet casing scattered around there. So many of such structures scattered around i can’t go into great deatail. She even came across the skull of a soldier, rusted helmet still attop his head. Well, i’ll post any more deatales if i get them. |

True much after ukrianian territory was taken over by the russians it became a very startegic due that it has access to the middle east thru the black sea and into southern europe and northern europe. |
