You ever been really bored and you just felt like shooting things with a slingshot or BB gun throughout your house, with no regard to your possesions? Well I know I have, and I’ve done it so often that my dad took my slingshot under a table saw (dick). After a long boring day and after watching a show about bullet-proofing on "The History Channel", I developed a easily-made material that can withstand the shot with out puncturing and the projectile has little or no rickishay effect. Here it is.
**This may look like alot but it’s mostly just folding**
Materials:
-4 sheets of paper towel
-duct tape
-something to test it with
I started by getting the paper towel off the roll.
I then started to fold the paper. You must get two folds for the first sheet. In other words, after two folds, one there should only be three sheets left.
Keep folding in this manner. NOTE:YOU WILL NOT CONTINUE TO HAVE TWO FOLDS PER SHEET, just go with it. After your done you should end up with something like this.
Fold it down, the non-"hotdog" way.
You should then end up with something like this.
Since it is in a square shape, there is no real wrong way to fold it, unless you end up with something like a triangle. Mine looked like this.
Fold it down like before.
This is basically it. Just tape the side that is "open" first so that it is easy to work with. It is a bit smaller than the finished product.
Now, just wrap it w/ duct tape. I found that two layer s worked just fine. Make sure to leave two corners of the thing open. It can be any two corners. It prevents air from building up inside which would cause a weakness in the material. I’m not gonna tell you how to wrap it, I’m guessing it’s pretty self explanatory.
Now the test to prove it works:
I purposely shot the material very close to show the effect.
Notice no holes or anything, just dents which are expected.
I know these look small but, if you make a few they can offer good protection for your desired target
Sorry for the small pics. I’ve to figure out how to make them bigger.
Mar 25, 2005 2:46 pm - Well it is not bullet proof to everything! I’ve only tested it with my slingshot and I presume that a BB gun would have the same results.
Apr 08, 2005 3:42 pm - UPDATE: Ah-ha. I recently accquired a pellet gun and tested it. It is "pellet" proof. Although the pellet does not bounce off, it penetrates the surface but REMAINS IN THE APPARATUS and does not pertrude through the other end
