De5cription:This is a simple trick you can do with (hypothetically) anything.
Effect: Set something on fire and watch it flame, but ultimately die out causing no damage
Instructions:(Please read through before attempting)
1)To do this you will need alcohol and water. Mix the two together, using one part C3H5OH (Alcohol) and one part H20(Water), so you have a solution with a 1:1 ratio of water to Alcohol, creating a 100 proof(50% Alcohol) solution.
2) Soak a dollar bill into the solution for about 5 seconds. The bigger the bill, the greater the effect on people.(For no reason other than its worth more so people get more excited)
3) Use something to keep your distance from the bill, such as tongs or plyers so you dont burn yourself, and set the bill on fire.
4) Because the Activation energy(AE) required for the Bill to combust is so much higher than the AE for the C3H5OH + H20 solution, the solution will burn first using all the energy before the bill ignites. After the flames die, the bill will be dry and unharmed.
This can be done with just about anything with a highenough AE that doesnt absorbe too much of the substance. You can do it with paper, papertowl, shirts(be careful because it may absorbe to much and light the shirt) and anything else that comes to mind that will absorb a little of the mixture.
IMPORTANT
Make sure you use a 1:1 ratio. Too much C3H5OH will light the bill on fire, and too much H2O will have no effect.
Note: When i refer to alcohol, I mean ethanol, or Ethyl Alcohol. Not rubbing alcohol.

Hey..alcohol is merely ethanol which is very easy to obtain..,, for instance methylated spirits is 96% pure ethanol with 4% methanol to make it poisonous if you drink it!!!! that is why deroes drink it....because its pure an cheap! |

good trick but you dont have to go through the trouble of using the mixture you can just use rubbbing alchohol because it is mostly water too but be carful and try it because my teacher did it and i think he used rubbing alchohol because it was in the same kind of bottle |
