is there a specific name for forum languages? like, why isn’t it just like regular html, and use "a href" "font size" "font color" etc.

only reason i see is to save time. is that why?

BECAUSE YOU TOUCH YOURSELF AT NIGHT!!

No, It probably has some meaning and the acronym URL just stuck.

Kinda like how we used to call cd’s compact disks.

wait a minute. What I just said didn’t make sense.
I really don’t know why the used url and not html.
I think it’s because url allows you to click the link.

if you do < a href="url here">text< /a> it does the same thing as [ url]
what i’m saying is, why did they choose to change it to url, instead of just keeping the usual html

probably because people are retarded and cant remember blah [url] is easyer and faster to type in, so it makes more sence to me

Ya, as said; html is harder than just punching in [url].

Personally, I don’t care, they are both easy to remember.

its called bbcode
(bb= bulletin board)
it’s easier (for security) to take specific codes and process them as html and escape everything else than to allow html and filter xss vectors

everything on the xss cheat sheet (google it) plus a lot more would hafta be filtered. also things like style sheets, embed tags, div’s etc could cause problems
