my recently added egg was on 5 rating after 8 votes then on 1 after 10, is this actually possible or is there a problem on the server or what?

That is very possible, and annoying. Most likely it was rated high by a couple of low level members and rated low by a single high level member. Happens all the time.

I assume some higher level people rated it down. I rated it 4, it should go back up.
