So I’ve been looking for some other good oxidizers besides KNO3. I know Perchlorates or even Chlorates would be nice, but I don’t know of any way to get them (or make them safely). Any ideas?

I have the perfect thing for you, go to a pool supply store and buy bromine tablets.

it’s people like you that give pyrotechnics a bad name...people like you that the CPSC is trying to ban purchasing chemicals. stop talking

a perchlorate or chlorate is NOT an oxidizer, they’re chlorates...they are sensitive to friction and shock and do not supply oxygen to a burning reaction..there for, they are NOT oxidizers. dont even try to substitute chlorates for oxidizers

hows this...if it doesn’t have NO3 in the chemical formula, it’s not an oxidizer

ACDCrocksmorethanyou, you have made some very stupid replys in this forum that need to be corrected. Firstly, you stated that chlorates or perchlorates are not oxidisers. This is very stupid. They are oxidisers and are used in a number of reactions. One is flash powder. the perchlorate provides oxygen for the aluminium to burn. Another one is NASA shuttle booster rockets.

Secondly, you said that all oxidiers are nitrates(NO3). This, again is very wrong. Lots of oxidisers exsist including pool chlorine. Some include Chlorates, Perchlorates, Permanganates, Peroxides, Hypochlorites(pool chlorine, Bleach), and persulphates. Even sulphates are sometimes used as high temperature reactions as a oxidiser.

Next time you want to post something in a forum and it is wrong, don’t post it. These remarks make you look like a dumarse which i hopefully doubt you are not seeing you are on a sight that tell people how to manufacture pyrotechnical compositions which in the wrong hand could be lethal.

Buy all the chemicals you can. mix them with flammable powders, such as aluminum ad light it on fire. If it explodes its, an oxidizer. If it tastes sweet, and is white and granulated, It MIGHT be sugar.

And how about N2O? That provides oxigen :) (think about the cars etc.)

@ Anethisist, youre right, SOME Chlorates, perchlorates are ixodisers. Not even nearly all of them are though.

But that doesnt have to do anything with it being a Chlorate or something like that. A chlorate for example is called a chlorate because it contains chlorine in oxidising state.
And because it is in oxidising state it doesnt mean it provides oxigen or something. The oxidising state hasn’t to do anything with burning and shit but with redox reactions.
And redox reaction is a whole different thing so dont talk bullshit please.

It happens a lot, I was contemplating just deleting all the bullshit posts instead of pulling long-winded correction responses out my ass. Actually I think I said a while ago I’d delete any pyro-related topics because of this problem.

I still find the pyrotechnical "knowledge" on this site funny, UKPS and ACP should see this.

redox reaction is an oxidation-reduction reaction it is a reaction where atoms transform into ions and ions into atoms. oxidizers give electrons and reducers take electrons. oxygen means acid maker, it was named incorrectly and acids are defined as being able to accept electrons while bases can give. oxidizing does not have to involve oxygen but it must involve acidifying something. for every oxidation part of a reaction, there is a reduction using the same amount of electrons (because charge is conserved). redox reactions are one of the most annoying parts of chemistry.

HOLY SHIT WOW.

I never thought I’d laugh that ahrd with out Mary Jane.

Wow, your a COMPLETE moron, who should take your OWN advice, and

A chlorate is one the most strongest fucking oxidizers that is used in pyrotechnics. If you do not know this you are completely fucking retarded, hell even gsadoline/cotton string fuse nubs know chlorate is the God of pyrotechnical oxidizers. Perchlorate is JUST as strong.

I was amazed at the idiocy of your post. You think you know shit, but I take that literally, you know SHIT.

One problem, THEN WHERE THE FUCK IS THE N IN OXYGEN?

You dont even know that you dont NEED oxygen to be an oxidizer, yes it seems wrong, but wtf about chlorine, or fluorine(strongest oxidizer)

Please, do not EVER speak of pyro, or how nubs ruin it, because you’re a complete fucking retard with not even the slightest clue of anything. CHLORATE MAKES FLASH LIKE BURNING SPEEDS WITH FUCKING SUGAR.
