Fuck this crappy thing! I finally find a working version of X-Com (old game from the 90s) and get it running. Everything is running smoothly till I have to intercept a UFO (if you have played the game you will know what I am talking about, if you haven’t you won’t). So anyways, when I click "YES" on the mission screen, windows cheerfuly crashes my game and gives me that "WINDOWS HAS ENCOUNERED AND ERROR" bullshit. You know what the error is? WINDOWS! God that pisses me off. I finally manage to play a game I played like 8 (or more) years ago, but it crashses. I am thinking about trying to run it in DOS. The game WAS made for Windows 95 (which is probably why it won’t work fully). If anyone has any ideas, let me know.

I am just going to find the damn CD along with Master of Orion II. I have no idea whether or not the CD version will fair better than the internet download version, but it is worth a try. X-Com is one of the best games ever made, period. Anyone who argues that needs to be silenced (with multiple bullets). Sure the graphics may not be the best and it can be a bit cheesey at times, but damn that game is fun.

If you guys are looking for an anti virus program, STAY AWAY FROM PANADA 2006! It makes your computer worse. Do you enjoy watching videos off the internet? Do you enjoy being able to run programs at your leisure? Do you enjoy having smooth game play in games like CS:S? TOO BAD! if you download Panda Titanium 2006, you will loose all of those. The program has actually been documented as spyware itself since it installs crap on your computer (bad crap). Ironic isn’t it? The only program I have is Ewido which does a fair job. I have never gotten a virus which required me to get a new drive, format my drive, or lose all my files.

If you are running XP (or any earlier windows), there is a backwards compatability option. If like you say the game won’t run as is try this:...

1) Right click on the icon for the game
2) Click on properties
3) At the top, click the compatability tab
4) tick the ’Run this program in compatability mode for’ box
5) Select Windows 95
6) Click apply then ok

With any luck, this should sort your problem out, there are other option there like run in 256 colours which might be a next step to try.

Please let me know how you get on by messaging me

Best of luck

It amazes me just how much trouble all of you have with your Computers!!

The FIRST thing you should do when you get a new PC is to PROTECT it!!

Within reason, it doesn’t even matter what brand Anti-Virus you use, but it MUST be up to date, it’s always the newer viruses that will get you, the old ones have been in the databases of all the major Anti-Virus companies.

If the Anti-Virus brands you’ve tried bog your computer down, you might want to try Trend Micro, it has been said that it uses less of your Computers power to get the same job done as the other Anti-Virus apps.

It was C-Net’s editors pic a few years ago just for that reason.

I’ve been using Norton Anti-Virus since 1996, and I’ve never had any major issues with it, but the trick to making it play nice with your PC is to install it FROM DAY ONE of your getting the computer. If you let things build up and get even slightly messed up, it’s probably to late to get any AV app to work 100%.

My advice to all of you would be to save any files you wish to keep, re-install Windows from scratch and protect your computer with a good Anti-Virus app and a good Firewall. Norton Internet Security is the brand I use and it has been awesome, though it does use up lots of your PCs processing power, but this shouldn’t bother most of the reasonably new PCs as they are pretty damned powerfull to begin with.

You most likely have a Browser Helper Object that has taken over your IE browser. (IE is NOTORIOUS for this!)

There is a fix for it, but you REALLY gotta know what your doing.

Download Hijack This and search for a forum with experts that are able to help you analize the results of the scan it does. If you just delete everything in the scan , you might as well start from scratch.

YOU WILL NEED HELP TO USE THE HIJACK THIS APPLICATION, so don’t fuck with it till you know what you’re doing, or have good help!!!!

Just make sure it’s UPDATED!!

That is the IMPORTANT part!

If it’s not updated you might as well not have it installed as it won’t stop ANYTHING new!
