...you forget to disconnect the power before upgrading your computer?
I do, and now I have to replace my motherboard and CPU.

A new computer would be worth the extra 100 bucks unless you already got a $1000 piece of equipment.

the rest of my stuff is fine, so there is no need to get a whole new comp. both my cpu and my mobo crapped out.

you tested the mobo and cpu out with ones that were working right?
ex. presumed dead cpu in good mobo/vice versa

Yeah, usually you’d just fry the mobo and the CPU would be fine.
But yeah, I’ve done stupid stuff like that already. Years ago, my dad bought me a brand new 52x CD-Rom which was like $50 at a computer show and damn near $100 still at stores. I installed the cable backwards and managed to fry the thing. Luckily, my uncle gave my dad some junk computers he went over for what he wanted and I pulled a 32x out.

Shit happened to me once before. It was a pretty crappy computer anyway so I really didn’t bother to replace any parts. I just took it apart, sold some parts to my friend (ooo what an idiot) and got enough to buy a new PC. Why don’t you just get a new PC? Unless you burned out like a Falcon or something.

I think you guys are missing the whole concept here, I FRIED THE MOTHERBOARD AND CPU, that means that I tested them both and they don’t work. It’s cheaper to just get a mobo/cpu combo than it would be to buy a whole new unit

naw, still looking around. I wasn’t going to get anything too extravagant because it’s not my pimped out computer. I need a motherboard with this though:
AGP 8X slot
5 PCI slots
ATX formfactor
preferably Intel
10/100/1000 LAN
If you see anything, let me know/ provide a link

Intel doesn’t suck, it has dual-core and quad-core cpu’s and 64-bit, amd hasn’t yet reached quad-core.
I don’t care what socket as long as there is a cpu to match; socket 478 preferably, that’s what i have now

AMD has dual socket 1207 motherboards.
you stick 2 dual core CPUs in there for quad core.
they’re still working on one chip quad though.
