Yeah, i know, its been forever and a day since ive posted, but ive been brooding and i thought this’d be a good place to get some advice/opinions.
I’ll be frank here, i wanna get some fucking money, and i dont want to have to work for it, so i figure walmart is an easy, faceless target. Heres the plan.
Trip 1: I walk into walmart and find some kind of realitively cheap item, maybe 5-10 bucks, pocket it and walk out.
Trip 2: I walk in the other doorway/on another day with the previously stolen item in hand and tell the greeter i wish to return it, at which point, to my limited understanding, they put a sticker of some sort on it to indicate that i brought it in with me to be returned. I proceed to head over to the customer service area and then head to the back of the store once out of the greeters sight. I then find a realitively expensive item (50-80 bucks) and transfer the sticker from the orignal item to that one. Then, I head to the service desk and attempt to return the more expensive item without a reciept.
From what ive heard, walmart will allow you to return an item without a reciept for cash, however, they look at your ID and keep track of how often you do it. But even if they just give you store credit i’d be down with it.
any glaringly obvious errors or rash assumptions in my plan?

The Customer Service desk is usually next to the entrance, even though old people usually can’t see far.

Security cams watch people walking in with merchandise... They know about this scam. You might get away with it, but the risks are kinda high...

Quote: The Customer Service desk is usually next to the entrance, even though old people usually can’t see far.
at our store, the customer service desk is located right between the two entrances, and far enough away that im confidant i could ’lose’ the greeter unless they were making a consious effort to watch me all the way there

ive heard that the cameras arent actually monitored in real time, but instead are used to:
a. watch footage after something sketchy is known to have happened
b. prevent people from lying about getting hurt and suing etc.
and even if we assume that they ARE watching me, they would have to be keeping a constant eye on me the whole time to see that it was shifty as none of the things id be doing are sketchy in and of themselves.
Also, regardless of the final outcome of the scam, i dont think any of the individual components are explicitly against any rules. but who knows

Better off doing this at a convenience store with something like disposable razors... They’re small enough to pocket, and between 5 and 15 bucks... Just swipe them, and return them after the shift change... Not as much money, but a lot less risk...

my econ teacher was saying they’ll return open things for cash, even without a reciept (this is what sparked the whole plan) but i think that its not too uncommon to be able to return something without a reciept anywhere. its just a matter of store credit vs. cash, either of which would be fine

I KNOW THE CAMERAS WATCH IN REAL TIME!!!!!!!!!! sorry bout the caps, but i do, i was at wallymart one day and i wanted to look at one of the el cheapo paintball guns simply because i wanted to feel its crappy trigger pull, moments later, over the intercom "BOY WITH PAINTBALL GUN, PUT DOWN PAINTBALL GUN" repeatedly until i did, i didnt see anyone nearby, so it mustve been the camera that was 30 feet away...

well, i just tried it, no dice, heres how it went down:
I went and got a 10 dollar pair of headphones, put em in my pocket and walked out. Then i went around to the other door and told the greeter i wanted to return them. he put a little pink sticker on and then i took ’em and walked to the back of the store. I peeled off the little sticker (which was tough, they put little slits in it to make it hard to peel off in one peice) and put it on some 50 dollar computer game.
then i walked to the return desk, and things seemed to be going well. I told her i didnt have a reciept and she seemed to say the policy for video games and no reciept was to gift card it. (not as good as cash, but i could still buy something and sell it or just get something i wanted) However, after scanning it in she just said "its over a year old in the system, i cant return it, sorry" so i just admitted defeat.
What i cant figure out is what exactly was a year old. The only thing they had that could be dated was the sticker i got from the greeter, which was dated today. If i could do it again, id have asked what was a year old, and explained that it was a gift and im pretty sure the game was released less than a year ago, but whatever.
I’m gonna try again another time, but instead of a game or electronics im gonna get some kind of sports equipment or something, i have a feeling they might have somekind weird policy regarding electronics

ZOMG spuck
I used to just take the item out into the garden area, slip it under the fence, and wing around and get it later.

well, theres all kinds of methods like that for getting items, but my hope here is to find a way to ultimately get cash, either by returning something for cash, or buy returning something for credit and
a. selling the gift card to someone
b. using the gift card to get something expensive/difficult to steal and sell that

so it works, i just pulled it off.
i acted like i was returning a pair of 10 dollar headphones and put the sticker on a 50 dollar pair. Return went off without a hitch, they looked at my id, so i’ll have to do this sparingly, but still, 50 free walmart dollars. I think ima up the anty next time, 70-80 or something, ill try to keep it under 100 tho cuz i think if they’re going to have different return procedures for expensive items, itd start at 100.
anyways, if anyone has any clever ideas on how i can turn this gift card into cash without bending over backwards let me know.

You have $50 on the gift card? The quickest way to cash that, because most drug dealers I know do not accept Walmart gift cards, is to just sell the card itself for $40. Especially to your parents or some older family member who would spend $50+ at Walmart in any given trip anyways. Call the 1-800 on the back, let them listen that there is $50 on the card, and offer it for $40.
Yes, you lose $10. But you just gained cash that can be spent any and everywhere.

yeah, the only issue with that is my entire family is violently anti-walmart....
otherwise i woulda, im currently in the process of looking for other buyers, maybe friends who are gonna buy a game or something
any other ideas anyone?
im assuming if i bought something legit and returned it with a reciept they recipt would note that i used a gift card so that i wouldnt be able to lie they i paid with cash and try to return it again....

i wonder if im in one of those states or if one of the neighboring states is one...
ill have to research this, any ideas where i could look?
