Since this was my last chance to go to the landfill for eight months (I’m off on a trip) I decided it would be best to go to the dump one last time.
Anyways, I was tearing a prototype IBM motherboard from a mangled when I heard the distinct sound of rubber on gravel.
A car was coming.
I booked it behind the scrap heap and after a few moments I looked back and spotted the gate open and a person with his hand on the side of his face. He was calling the cops. I calmly walked up to the gate where my bike was and as I grabbed my bike he said "Just to tell you, I am calling the cops and you better get the hell out of here before they arrive and I tell them what you look like."
I then booked it off down the road and out the main gate.
I hid at a garden center for a while and while I was leaving I almost got spotted by an RCMP cruiser. They don’t come up here unless something was up.
It usually takes me half an hour to get back home but because I was hotter than a stove at the moment there was not just one cruiser in the area but two. This meant going from hiding place to hiding place and by the time I was at the safety of my garage it had taken an hour and a half to get home.
Now I can’t leave the house tonight NOR can I go back to the dump to grab the rest of my stash which was safely hidden before I was spotted.
After a whole summer, would you say it would be safe to return? I’m not going to let some asshole try and stop my only joy in life.

The monitors I’m using - trash. The computers I have under the house, ranging from 8088’s to Pentium 4’s are ALL trash-picked. My old TV? DVD player? Stero system? Truck-box?

If you really are digging in a corporate dumpster, it is against federal law for them to dispose of most computer equipment as it contains lead and other toxins. I’m sure if you explain that you will save them the cost of paying to recycle it and avoid and investigation from the press they will probably have a sudden change of heart and BEG you to dig through their shit. Otherwise, report them.

People throw out computers every day.
Seeing as you’re so concerned with computers, did you know that compact fluorescent bulbs (the little ones that are spiraled) contain mercury? Those too are supposed to be recycled. But people don’t do that.

I’m a chronic electronics garbage picker too.
starting tomorrow, I am travelling to southern ontario (Millbank for those who want to know) for two weeks and so it’s going to be a while before I return.
What made this odd was that it was not a guy from the city who caught me. As I approached the guy I also saw he was driving a car clearly not designed for dirt roads, the stereo was blaring (how Did I not hear that much bass?) and he just seemed out of place. I also wondered how the fuck he got the keys to both the main gate and the gate to the inside of the dump. Only those who work at the dump and city hall have the keys.
For the record, I keep away from the real garbage pile. It reeks of death and I swear it tried to grab my leg once. I keep towards the scrap pile (computers galore along with knives and tools) and I try to avoid the Shop and Drop but no promises there.
