How much do you want to file it down?

You’ll be wasting your time. Use a grinding wheel, and keep coolant on it. That will not only make the HARDENED STEEL (not spring steel that tension wrenches are made out of) VERY brittle, and will gouge it. Plus, because it’s such a high grit, doing that by hand will take a long time, it’ll keep pulling it out of your hand.

Im only using this because I have no grinder or files. I think it’s filing it down, and it will work. I taped it to a nail filer for easyness. I think it might work..but itll take a while.

Either way, you’re putting torsional bias on something that (indeed was initially made for it) doesn’t have the capability of torsional torque once it’s been filed down enough to fit into a key hole.
I recommend that you get some steel (non hardened) and torch it up, bend it over and then use that end (granted it’s thin enough).

NO!!! Your Allan key should be hard steel. You are going to be doing a lot of sanding to turn it into a tension tool.
Look at windshield wiper blades. Some may have a steel backing that is excellent for making tension tools. Just heat, bent and cool.

why would you make a thread asking if sandpaper that you have will work? why couldn’t you just try it?

I was trying it. I knew it would take a while I’de rather know if it worked, then try it forever and it not.
