Will you just be playing in a garage, or at parties?

If you want something good for under 200 NZ with effects, try something like a Crate, or a Line 6 if you can find one.

You’re not going to find much with that little money.

How much are you willing to spend? Guitar or Bass amp? I got my Line 6 120watt amp and it has some effects in there. You might want to look at the smaller models they have like the Line 6 75watt. That has effects as well.
Also depends on what type of music your going to play. If its blues or something, you might want to go with a Fender or something like that. If its hard, then yeah a Marshall, Line 6, something like that.
Go to http://musiciansfriend.com and check some out.

Marshall. There is no substitute. A 30watt amp can overpower drums. If you want Modeling because your to lazy to use pedals(sound quality will suffer) I use the Cube 60 by Roland. But seriously, Marshall. Ive never been let down by a Marshall, and I have played quite a few.

save up 800NZD and get a Laney 120watt valve pre-amp.
I have it, love it.
Great for rock and metal.
