Their is a program that is like JROTC for The Air Force. It is called Civil Air Patrol(CAP). It is an overall fun program and if you have military ambitions you should consider joining it.

I will now list Pros and Cons.
Pros
1. You can fly an actual airplane for free.
2. It looks great on your college application.
3. It is reasonably fun and a great source of military knowlage.

Cons
1. You have to wear BDUs(Battle Dress Uniform) which is the full camo suits that they wear.(Not what the Army wears those are ACUs)
2. You do have to take tests(easy)to rank up.

CAP have meeting places in all 50 states so go to the websit listed above and below for more information.

Do you know how you have to be in the program before you get to fly in the wild blue yonder? Years, months, days?

As soon as you join you can schedule a flight but there is a fee to join CAP (not that much). You also have to shadow three meetings before you can officialy join. Flying is amazing though I love it and am currentlly taking lessons to get my pilot’s liscense. After I leave The Air Force I plan to become a commercial pilot.(big moneys$$$444)

Thanks, if my vision wasn’t so fucked because I refuse to wear glasses(getting contacts) then I would want to be a USMC scout sniper.

I could give my CAP ID to people planning to join and make a it a ref topic : ). I won’t though.

A friend of mine did that with his dad.

He drove a plan with his dad and 2 friends to a Ben Folds concert in Oklahoma city, and the plane crashed. I was supposed to go with them, but I had to go out of town that weekend.

The CAP is pretty cool, but I have no interest in flying planes.

Pretty much what I wanna do, but I heard its hard as fuck, so I’ll probably just join the army right when high schools over.

Word of advice army is more dangerous than any other branch and out of high school the pay is terrible. If you are sure you are interested in the Army then get into ROTC. It is a program that will pay for college for you but you must agree to join The Army for a predetermined time. You will be able to join at a much higher rank therefore you will get paid much more.

Sorry for two posts in a row but I would like to add another downside to the army. The Army is deployed for lengths of 12-18(usually 12-14) months while the Air Force is only deployed for 4-8 months(usually 5-6)

BLOCKED, EXPIRES Dec 02, 2008

Posted: Jan 09, 2008 6:37 p.m. - Subject:

Civil air patrol is absolutely nothing like how you described it. Ive been in it for 5 years now. Guess how many orientation flights i’ve been on....4. AND IM IN THE SMALLEST FUCKING WING OF ALL OF THEM! (RI) east bay composite squadron then i switched to Newport composite in which i was the cadet commander. I am currently at 1st liutenent but i took a break from cap to get a job to gain money to help my father with his bills. It is not as glorious as it seems. But dont get me wrong it is a great program if your interested in the Air Force. But its mostly based on who you know and who you screw around with. If you are starting out as a airmen basic then don’t expect to do anything unless you start attending wing meetings or cac meetings (cadet advisory council) all cadets are welcomed according to the cap manual. Nobody shall be denied entrance to a wing cac meeting. But if you really want to get somewhere you need to start making friends with the people up top. Btw i started at 11 (before the age became 12) and i am now 17

I don’t care about how dangerous it is, and I’m not gonna do ROTC and wear those gay uniforms to school. I guess I’ll look into marines.

Any form of ROTC = gay. It’s basically cheating the system and pissing off all the guys who actually worked for their rank.

Besides, why the Air Force, unless you wanted to fly? As you mentioned before, you have crappy eyesight, so sorry to say, but there isn’t much of a chance of you flying anything for the military. Any other job in the AF is in laymen’s terms, pussy work.

I’ve heard it’s harder for taller people to join the airforce. If that’s false then I might consider joining to train an be a commercial pilot (I love flying). Ether that or I might become a marine sniper, seeing as it’s a legal way to kill people.
