Don’t try doing cardiovascular exercises, that doesn’t always help losing weight.
Weight lifting is what you wanna go for. You can either do high weight with low rep, or low weight high rep, I do some of both. (I’m not fat though, I’m slim.)
I recommend also cutting down on junk food, obviously. Whatever you do don’t do swimming, it tends to make people put on a bit of fat because of the cold water.
Lastly, drink lots of water. Some obese people confuse thirst with hunger. You could do sports too. I’m in Ninjitsu, keeps me in good shape.

Devote a few hours to googling on building muscle if you build muscle your metabolism increases causing your body to burn more calories. If you burn more calories than you take in your body will burn off some of its own stored fat. You might not lose weight but you will lose fat and gain muscle. Thats even better and muscle is attractive while rolls of fat aint.
The well cultured anonymous thing on wikichan has some good information on muscle building.

If you go into almost any good gym you can talk to personal trainers who will help you set up a proper exercise regiment according to your needs. Many times they’ll do this for free.

Push ups
Go walk somewhere
Don’t even need to spend money. When the sit ups or push ups get too easy, fill up a bag with sand or something and put it on your back/stomach.

I’m not Japanese, I live in Canada. If you had spent 5 seconds looking at my profile, you may have noticed that.
Oh and -Atheist-, that’s what I’ve heard, not something I deduced on my own. Clearly I’m not making something like that up. Although yes you get exercise from the swimming, but it’s counter productive because of the cold of the water, as opposed to another sport where you would have just the exercise and not the counterproductive aspect. "Use your fucking brain", I believe you said? I did. Now it’s your turn.
