I formatted my computer last weekend and I haven’t gotten around to downloading a Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware program yet. Before I was using McAfee but I heard there are better ones than it. Any suggestions?

Spybot isnt really good, avg is a real time scanner while Spybot only works when you scan your system also avg finds more bad stuff than spybot.

McAfee is goood.
On NO ACCOUNT will you ever purchase norton. It is a system resource hog, takes too long at everything and to top it off, it is overpriced.

Linux is pure shit unless you have a shitty computer and can’t afford or download Windows 95.
Be smart on the internet and check what you’re downloading. That’s the best anti-virus.

Just download a shitload of them and run them periodically.
I personally have 10 Anti-Virius, Anti-Spyware, Scanners, etc. Every once in a while I will run them and they will sometimes find something. The reason I say to get more than one is that some find what others don’t and for the tiny amount of hard drive space it will take up for them to be on your computer, its worth it.

Great way to slow down your computer and make it pure shit.
Don’t listen to this fool.
Second of all, those programs WILL collide with each other and give you unexpected results. It’s probably why one program finds something that the other one doesn’t. If a program keeps something in quarantine then another program will find it there and just make a huge fucking mess.
Just like running 2 or more firewalls. They will collide and none of them will work leaving you exposed and slowing down your computer.

Linux Pro’s and Cons (Note: Incredibly biased)
Pros:
Faster
Makes better use of RAM and CPU
Much more customizable (Graphical environments and such)
Free and Open Source
No vendor lock-in
Faster development
Can boot from CD/DVD drive
Much better security (Not just because of the relatively low popularity, but also a better underlying infrastructure)
Rarely requires a reboot due to software installation
More stable than Windows (depending on the distribution)
Free support with many distributions
Automated updating of software
No evil Microsoft
Cons:
Less hardware and software support
Different and sometimes unfamiliar
Much less friendly to gaming

Faster - Matters what programs you’re running, how much RAM you have, your video card, and processor.
Can’t be compared. Plus, in Windows you can edit which processes start up by editing the msconfig menu. However, most people don’t know of this (linux nerds) and just say windows is slow.
Makes better use of RAM and CPU - Refer to the first answer.
Much more customizable (Graphical environments and
such) - Who gives a shit? Ever heard of Windows Blinds?
Free and Open Source - Really doesn’t matter unless you really know what you’re doing and how to edit the source code of linux
No vendor lock-in - Eh.
Faster development - It’s because it’s open source, and by development you mean they fixed 2 bugs over a week. Amazing.
Can boot from CD/DVD drive - Portable Windows
Much better security (Not just because of the relatively low popularity, but also a better underlying infrastructure) - Be smart with computers and with the internet and you won’t have to worry about security. Plus, if you visit a website on Windows and buy something of a website and get your credit card stolen doesn’t mean it will not happen if your running linux.
Rarely requires a reboot due to software installation - Lol, just because a program says it will only work after a reboot doesn’t mean it’s true. Hell, I haven’t seen one program that doesn’t work after installing and asks you for a reboot.
More stable than Windows (depending on the distribution) - Windows 98 dude. Best version of Windows. Never crashes, never hangs. Plus, the only reason XP freezes or crashes is because people don’t know shit about computers and just bang the keyboard and delete files that are important without realizing it.
Free support with many distributions - Yea, you got that right. But let’s see the ratio between programs that will work on Windows to programs that will work under Linux (even with the help of Wine)
Automated updating of software - That’s pretty bad. That means the people who developed the software haven’t been able to fix all the problems the first 200 times they released "updates". Windows XP has automatic updates for it’s own software anyways. Also, some programs have their own automated updating (like Steam, anti-virus, etc.)
No evil Microsoft - Yea, because yesterday they popped out of my computer monitor and stabbed me. I have no problem with them. The only people that do are the ones looking for the problems.

Until you stop paying for the updates. Then it becomes AdWare. Believe me...

Nigger please. Wait until Linux catches on. Do you think major vendors are going to write different versions for all the different Linux types out there? People will be able to fuck it before anybody does (or cares to) catch on.
And yes, I’ve used it, it’s installed on this computer. Dual-Boot, and I’m still using XP...

Matters what programs you’re running, how much RAM you have, your video card, and processor. - Windows’ way of handling multiple processes is inefficient compared to Linux. I should also add that I know of no Linux distro that cause data fragmentation to occur.
Who gives a shit? Ever heard of Windows Blinds? Sure, Blinds and tardock and such are cool, but they all run on top of the default Windows wm. Plus, there are lots more DE’s and wm’s for linux than display hacks for Windows. More efficient anyway to simply swap out the wm than change the way windows handles well, windows.
Really doesn’t matter unless you really know what you’re doing and how to edit the source code of linux- Doesn’t take much skill to work with shell 5cripts, and FOSS = faster development
Faster development - It’s because it’s open source, and by development you mean they fixed 2 bugs over a week. Amazing. -Ubuntu’s release cycle is every six months. Granted, they don’t overhaul as drastically as Windows does in its 3-5 year release cycle, but in the same amount of time, more gets done.
It’s because it’s open source, and by development you mean they fixed 2 bugs over a week. Amazing. -
