ok so i am already training for football for next year, and i was wondering, if i am 6ft 2 and 220 pounds how much should i be benching. i am not doing this to become a bodybuilder but for footbal, i am a offensive left tackle.

slayerofBMX and your a 6ft 2 Football player. I could quite easilly call BS, but there we are.
Nobody can tell you exactly how much to work out except you. Start light and go slowly.
Don’t just lift extremely heavy shit all the time. Find out your one rep max. I.E the maximum weight you can lift, once, and then you don’t have the strength to lift it.
Then do 80% of that for about 8-10 reps and then do other excersise then do that again. Then next time do abour 40% of your one-rep-max and do as much as possible.
This is because the 80-100% tear your muscles, then the 40% help your endurance.

Well if you want explosive strength do more weight less reps and for endurence strength the real nam is dynamic strength then you want more reps and less weight.

no more than half your weight plus 50 so no more than 160 and you will want to start at about 50-60 and work your way up.

best way is:
find your max rep you can lift a couple of. then half that, then do reps of that weight.
dont drink water during the workout, do it during breaks and after.

For football. most of you jackasses don’t know what you’re talking about. You can have a lineman that benches more than you, but it does not matter at all. It’s all about endurance. Playing a football game is not about one push (max bench), its about pushing time after time (endurance). So the best thing to do is get great endurance first by doing a lot of reps, then starting to work out for higher weight maxes after you gain good endurance.

And also, football is not made up of bench press. You need to do squats, curls, military, inclined bench press, dead lifts, power cleans, lunges. There are a lot of workouts that you’ll go through, not just bench press.

trust me i no that, i do everything that you said pluss more...we have over 20 different weight workouts, and over 15 other workouts (sprints, pullups. push ups...)
