Everyone’s talking about lighting candles instead. Wouldn’t that produce a greater footprint? I mean, it took electricity to manufacture them, gas to transport them, and paper/cardboard/plastic to package them. Kind of defeats the purpose, don’t you think?
Electricity would have to be more efficient, if not with incandescent bulbs, at least with the fluorescents. No transportation involved (well, the bulbs, but they last a fuck of a lot longer than candles), less energy lost in conversion, and the candles give off a small amount of smoke themselves.

What we need to do is forget about conservation on the consumer end, and even the corporate end, and focus on technologies that will actually clean the air, as opposed to (trying to) stop it from getting any worse. Environmentalism is taking exactly the wrong approach to this, and if any of you feel the need to contribute in some way, you should donate to an organization that is funding carbon-removing technology.
