None of this really matters, because the number changes could have never been made in the first place. It has been proven impossible to use the internet from a commercial airplane. So obviously there is something else going on here.

No, you could use your cellphone’s Internet (I’m pretty sure you can, anyway, but if not, you could always rig something up to use the plane’s phones to send the data. You just need something to send the data through the phone line as a dial-up connection). Sure, they don’t allow them to be used on planes, but they don’t allow you to hijack them either, and that rule was clearly broken.
